Hotel Azar

8/10 Good

"Good half way stopover, parking and food, bar etc"

Parador de Plasencia

8/10 Good

"Set in a fabulous historic building this parador is huge. Very good bar and restaurant. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options for those interested. The staff were very helpful. Our room was massive. Had old people’s home vibes! Could do with updating, especially the bathroom, but the place is so enormous it would cost a fortune. Very nice looking pool, though not in use. Excellent location for exploring the historic part of the town. Overall excellent."

Hospedium Hotel Doña Mafalda de Castilla

8/10 Good

"We stayed for two nights travelling to our destination and two nights a fortnight later on the way back. On both occasion there was no evening meals available due to closure of resturant. This was a bind as it meant driving into town, then walking around looking for somewhere to eat, most places being shut on Mondays and Tuesdays. Apart from that the hotel was a good stop off for a couple of nights."

Casa Rural el Rincón de Monfragüe

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel and hotel staff were excellent. The breakfast is outstanding! Our only issue was with Hotels.com who sent us several messages from the hotel highlighting trips and visits we could take. The did not pass on requests from the hotel to confirm our arrival time. As they did not have our telephone number, they could not contact us directly so this took a while to resolve."

Balneario Valle del Jerte

10/10 Excellent

"I stayed for business trip and the staff were very welcoming and helpful to me from when I arrived. My Spanish is not great but were always helpful to try and help or accommodate me. Breakfast was good and the evening buffet meals had variety of choice. Many of the guests clearly visit for the pool and spa facilities, as well as hiking trials and cycling routes in the area. I did not have time for this but had an enjoyable stay and would return due to the practical location and friendly staff."

Dorma Alfonso VIII

8/10 Good

"This place is rather grand and cavernous - but feels more like a place for conferences now (there's no bar to relax in), and the wide staircase and long stretches of corridors made it feel like The Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Despite having very few customers, we ended up in a room with a view overlooking what looked like the staff kitchen and cleaning room, and the central core of the hotel (basically all the metal shafts, etc.), where water was constantly dripping, echoing all night. Saying that we enjoyed the weirdness, and the staff were excellent, as was the buffet breakfast, which was included."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Casas Del Monte?

The best area to stay in Casas Del Monte is within the village centre itself, as it offers the most convenient access to local amenities and a genuine taste of the region.

The village of Casas Del Monte is located in the Valle del Ambroz, characterised by its traditional stone and timber houses, narrow winding streets, and a relaxed pace of life. The main square, Plaza Mayor, is typically the heart of activity, often featuring a church and a few local eateries. The village is surrounded by cherry orchards and chestnut groves, providing scenic views and opportunities for walks.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find the village centre ideal. It provides a quiet base from which to explore the natural beauty of the Valle del Ambroz, with easy access to local restaurants serving traditional Extremaduran cuisine. The proximity to scenic walking trails through the orchards makes it great for leisurely strolls.

For those interested in local culture and gastronomy, staying in the village centre offers direct access to local shops selling regional products like olive oil and cured meats.

When is the best time to go to Casas Del Monte?

The best time to go to Casas Del Monte is during spring (April to June) and autumn (September and October).

Spring offers pleasant weather, with temperatures typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. The countryside is at its most beautiful, with lush greenery and wildflowers blooming, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the Jerte Valley's cherry blossoms. This period is particularly good for couples looking for scenic walks and comfortable temperatures.

Autumn also provides comfortable weather, with temperatures similar to spring, usually between 18°C and 28°C. The landscape transforms with rich autumnal colours, especially in the surrounding chestnut and oak forests. It's an excellent time for food enthusiasts, as it coincides with the mushroom foraging season and the olive harvest. Solo travellers might find this a great time for quiet contemplation and enjoying local produce.

While summer (July and August) can be very hot, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C, it's a popular time for those who enjoy swimming and water activities in the natural pools.
