About this property

Hot Tub | A-Frame Charm | North Lake Tahoe | Beach Access | Grand Elk Chalet

  • A three-story A-frame rising out of the towering pines of Carnelian Bay, Grand Elk Chalet pairs old Tahoe character with the kind of comfort that makes a group want to stay put. You're on the North Shore, minutes from the water, with a mountain-town pace that suits both lake days in July and powder mornings in January.

The setting does a lot of the work here. Across the street, the HOA beach gives you a pier, a swim area, and picnic grounds — the rare kind of access that turns a lazy afternoon by the lake into something you don't have to plan. Patton Beach and Carnelian West Beach add more shoreline a short distance away, and trails for hiking and biking thread through the forest right outside. Tahoe City's restaurants, shops, and riverfront walks are a quick drive down the lake, and when the snow falls, Northstar and Palisades Tahoe put world-class skiing within easy reach.

Inside, Grand Elk Chalet wears its history openly. Built in the 1930s, the home centers on a grand stone fireplace hand-laid from rock gathered on the property, lit overhead by historic chandeliers that once hung in Oakland's Elks Lodge. The main bath keeps its original Hollywood tilework, a detail you won't find twice. Above it all, the A-frame soars — exposed beams, tall windows, and an open living space that pulls in daylight along with partial lake and forest views.

Radiant heated floors keep the living room warm underfoot after a day outside, and the fully equipped kitchen opens to a dining table that seats six and stretches to ten with two hidden leaves, so long, unhurried meals come easy. A reading nook off the main living area makes a quiet spot for slow mornings or an afternoon with a book while the snow comes down.

Outside, the deck is its own retreat under the pines. Fire up the BBQ, settle into the lounge, or sink into the eight-person circular hot tub once the stars come out — a fitting close to any Tahoe day.

Five bedrooms sleep up to 12. The primary suite has a king bed and a spa-like ensuite with a soaking tub and walk-in shower. Two queen bedrooms work well for couples or friends, and the bunk room, with a double and a twin, suits kids or extra guests. The fifth bedroom is a detached studio beneath the deck, with its own private entrance and full bath — an easy setup for anyone who wants a little independence. Note that the studio comes with a kitchenette (sink, electric kettle, toaster, coffee maker, and a beverage mini fridge) rather than a full kitchen.

With in-home laundry, multiple bathrooms, and beach access just across the road, Grand Elk Chalet is built for groups who want to settle in and feel at home. Lake days, powder, or a quiet stretch surrounded by trees — this is the kind of North Tahoe stay that earns a repeat visit.
