This quiet beach has golden sands, blue waters and a backdrop of scenic cliffs. Often empty, it is a great choice of destination for a peaceful few hours.
Cala Pitones is a beautiful golden-sand cove that welcomes nudist visitors as well as those who prefer to cover up. Come here to enjoy the fine, soft sand and cool down with a dip in the clear blue waters. Enjoy the sense of isolation on this rugged and relatively undeveloped stretch of sand.
Note that it is trickier to gain access to the beach than it is to some of the other beaches along this section of the Costa de la Luz. Those with mobility issues would be best off avoiding the descent from the top of the cliffs to the beach itself. Perhaps because of the complications involved in accessing it, the beach is one of the quieter ones in the area.
Once on the sand, lay out your towel and prepare to enjoy the sun and the waves. Lounge and read a book as you work on your tan, or go for a refreshing swim. Don’t forget to bring a picnic with you, so you can have lunch here on the beach. The beach itself doesn’t offer any facilities, but this is part of its charm.
Walk west along the clifftop to reach pretty Cala Melchor, the next cove along. Further along still is Cala del Aceite, a much larger and slightly more developed beach. Close to this beach you will find the Sendero de Roche hiking area, an excellent place for a change of scenery from the shore. The Faro de Cabo Roche, or Roche Lighthouse, is another scenic highlight in the area.
Make your way southeast from Cala Pitones instead and you will eventually reach Fuente del Gallo, where you will find a few different eating options and accommodations. Further southeast still is picturesque Conil de la Frontera, a little town known for its pretty white buildings. As this popular spot is located around 15 minutes’ drive away, it makes an excellent base to stay in while exploring Cala Pitones and the other local coves.
