This region of Vermont has long been a favorite to outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy fishing, cycling, skiing, boarding, hiking, boating, and paddling. This area is popular with painters, writers, photographers, and the art community at large. Equally a favorite for foodies and craft beer lovers. If you enjoy locally grown food and the food movement, this is a place to explore. Discover the best of the country's best craft beer and savior locally grown.
Cycling - Button Bay Road is part of a cruise featured in Best Bike Rides in New England by Paul Thomas.
Birdwatching- The bay is recommended in Birdwatching in Vermont by Ted Murin and Bryan Pfiefer. There are bald eagles, ducks, geese, loons, herons, etc. Watch osprey’s dramatic aerial show daily from your deck.
Fishing- Lake Champlain hosts the Annual LCI Father's Day Fishing Derby and nearby Otter Creek is Vermont's longest river, with an unbelievably diverse watershed that attracts fisherman from far and wide.
Local Attractions & Activities- Button Bay State Park with Nature Center- A child-friendly pool and beautiful hiking trails. Two public islands in the bay are great to canoe or kayak to from the house. One of them, Button Island, was featured in a 1996 Boston Globe article on the newspaper staff’s fifteen favorite places in New England.
Basin Harbor Club - Offers an 18-hole championship golf course and fine dining, as well as the Red Mill which is a more casual restaurant/bar. Partnering with Basin Harbor Club is the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum with wonderful history and artifacts. Basin Harbor Club even has its own air strip if you want to fly in, or docks to boat in and grab lunch!
Vergennes- Just a 10-minute drive to the quaint town of Vergennes, named one of the “nine best small towns for food in the U.S." by Tasting Table online newsletter in October 2016. You will find a local supermarket, numerous great restaurants, art galleries, antiques.
Middlebury- A wonderful college town approximately 30 minutes away and Burlington, Vermont's largest city, is about 45 minutes away.

Beautiful home. Immaculate and well cared for. The kitchen had everything we needed. Lots of dishes and utensils and good cookware. The owner responded right away to answer any questions. We highly recommend this lovely home.
Wonderful Location for a Comfortable, Quiet Getaway
The house is clean, and well appointed. The views from the decks (multiple) are stunning. Contacting the owner was easy, and the responses were prompt. We would definitely return to this location.
Check-in and communication with the Host was terrific up to and during our stay. The views from this home always took our breath away. Fully stocked kitchen khiels
We stayed here with another family for a fall getaway. What a gorgeous home. The view from the deck was just stunning. The home was well appointed, especially the kitchen, which had everything we needed to cook a big family dinner. We hope to be back!
We had 3 generations of our family converge on this house and we had a wonderful time. It had easy access to the lake for those who are good with stairs. We enjoyed swimming, kayaking, hiking, fishing, shopping, and sunrise coffee on the decks. Marty was a great host!
The location was great. There was plenty to do for myself, teenage kids and my parents. The easy access to the lake with the kayaks and to watch the sunset was amazing. The house was clean and had everything we needed to make the stay fun, relaxing and enjoyable. My mom even asked if we would consider going back again next year. Marty was helpful and hospitable.
Property was well equipped, clean and had the most beautiful views! Marty the owner was very available to answer questions about the property and area. We very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property. Gravel road leading to property and several other properties so need to drive slowly up the drive which is not very long so no big deal.
We had a great stay on Lake Champlain. This VRBO is in a beautiful setting and was a wonderful spot for our family to spend time together during the holiday. The house is very modern and was well equipped to host our extended family of 10.
We loved this stay! Marty was so helpful when the power went out, due to a bad storm. He answered all of our calls quickly.
The renovations were lovely! The beds we’re some of the most comfortable I’ve slept on in years.
I would highly recommend this!
Our family enjoyed everything about the lakehouse. It was very clean, comfortable and picture perfect setting. Would highly recommend this lakehouse. Owner answered our calls immediately. Our family is planning on returning next year.
The title of this home is perfect... Newly renovated lake house... It was our most comfortable VRBO rental ever, where the pictures UNDERstate the size and comfort of the living area, dining room (with a gorgeous table for 10!), and bedrooms (super comfortable beds and linens)!
We loved our morning kayaks on the lake and sunset drinks on the deck!
The house was clean and had everything you could need the view was amazing over all great stay. Thank you Marty for being helpful with everything we will be going back in the future! Thanks again
Lovely home with plenty of beds, large dining room table and lots of seating in the living room. Beautiful view of the lake and mountains out the large picture window. It rained all weekend so we did not spend much time in the deck.
Great location with spectacular views of magnificent lake Champlain. Sunsets, Moon sets and everything you could want for an enjoyable get away. Kitchen fully stocked for cooking great meals and the views from the living room are off the charts. Can't wait to return when there is less than a foot of snow on the deck! Still made it out to the Grill and the host could not have been more accomodating. A++
Comfortable, high end furnishings and a quiet neighborhood. The home is lake side and we spent many hours out on the back deck. Shaded by an electric awning made afternoons a delight. Everything, from the bedding to the entertainment areas were super comfortable. My dealing with the host family felt like I was talking to my old neighbors. We found the surrounding towns to be places to visit again. Wasn't at all disappointed.
We had such a great week and loved the house. Stayed with six adults and five kids (ages 4-11). Everyone absolutely loved the house and location. Beautiful views of the lake off the decks and easy access for swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding. There were two kayaks at the house, and we brought our own paddle board, extra kayaks, and floats/water toys.
Bedrooms were spacious with large, comfortable beds, and there was AC in every room, which helped keep the house cool and dry. Hot water in all the showers that seemed to never run out was an extra bonus.
Highly recommend the house and would definitely go back!
A Fabulous Vermont location on lake Champlain. Great biking area.
It has been totally updated , wonderful beautiful wooden furniture and very comfortable beds. nice linen and towels provided.Very clean and well stocked with cleaning and paper supplies. We were 5 female friends all in our 60s. We had a wonderful very relaxing getaway. A few minor glitches with the brand new appliances… little to no ice in freeze/refrigerator seemed off not really cold . Both didn’t seemed to be working up to par. Stove only would go to Celsius temperature. Super hot. Could be dangerous high .
All and all . We had a wonderful time . Definitely an amazing spot and super accommodation .
We stayed at Marty's wonderful property on Lake Champlain for a few days during our 25-year Middlebury College reunion. It was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.
The house is very comfortable and it's easy to feel at home here. Most mornings we headed outside to swim from our own dock, greeting the morning along with the birds and squirrels. The decks have gorgeous views, and are furnished to make it comfortable to spend hours there: chairs, tables, a large awning, etc. We didn't use the kayaks, but it was clear that it would've been very easy to launch them from the dock.
Marty is the perfect host: we had great communication whenever we reached out, and Marty made sure we had all the information we needed, but we were left alone to just enjoy the house and relax.
We would return to Marty's property in a heartbeat... in fact, as we friends scattered to our various corners of the USA following our shared vacation, we've joked about running back up to Vermont as soon as we can. We all miss being there already!
Thanks, Marty, for a truly wonderful stay. Hopefully we'll be back again before long!
The pictures and videos are on the spot; seeing it in person is BEYOND impressive! We had four adults, three children, and one dog.
The house is immaculate, clean, and dust-free. The renovations make the house one of the top five places we have ever stayed.
All kitchen cooking, serving, and utensils are uniformed. The decks for coffee and views from the bedrooms make the mornings delightful. The sunsets are striking over the distant mountain range and lake.
The kids' multi-bed Room was spacious enough to get away from the adults. The bedding was super comfy in every room.
The checkout is at 9 a.m., which is challenging, but they say you can ask for additional time. They do not ask too much before leaving; you can strip bedding, run the dishwasher, and start a load of towels. There are plenty of paper products, trash bags, and cleaning supplies.
We have a special needs dog, and entry was just a few steps. There is no “yard” for the dog, but a nice walk down to the water, friendly neighbors, and access if they love water. Don’t worry about no yard; the back decks and access to the water will make up for it!!!
Suggestions: Key code for entry (Helpful for multiple guests who arrive at different times or do other things during their stay). Make the Wi-Fi password available on the info sheet, as not everyone knows to look at the router—a few games, cards, and paper/pen for game nights. And I do love a good Guest Journal!!!
Lake view, comfortable bedding full kitchen supplies. Great location for relaxing. Could have a bit more amenities i.e. only one hairdryer, no soap... just little stuff. Great spot!!
Couldn't ask for a better lake view! Host was extremely gracious and helpful. Kitchen was amazingly well stocked with everything a person would ever need. Very peaceful, not a human sound heard in the three nights we were there. Would DEFINITELY recommend this house and would stay there again!!!
