If you're looking for a vacation rental in Boothbay Harbor where you can make one quick grocery trip to Hannaford's and never have to get in the car again, this is it! I booked this cottage specifically because of the location, and it totally exceeded my expectations! I stayed there from August 2-9, 2024 with my 18-year-old son and senior Shih-Tzu, and we loved every single minute of our trip. The house was clean, comfortable, and we loved having our own bathrooms and bedrooms on separate floors so we each got a little privacy and space. Having a pool table was such a huge bonus, too. We played every evening after dinner, and then we also took advantage of the board games provided in the home, specifically Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble.
Back to the amazing location. I cannot say enough about it! The home is about a 10-minute walk into town going over the Footbridge, which is a destination in itself. My little dog and I had the best time strolling across it every morning and checking out the boats together! Barret Park is also just a short 5-7 minute stroll from the house, and we loved going over there every afternoon to take in the views. It's a great spot for swimming, too, though we didn't wind up getting in the water this trip.
The week was all about relaxation! My son and I spent our days walking into town to shop and enjoy the local seafood restaurants. Our favorite in town by far was Kaler's (especially the fish and chips), but we also enjoyed the Tugboat and McSeagull's. The view from the Tugboat is great, but be sure to get there right when they open to get a spot.
Almost every night, we'd walk down to the Boothbay Lobster Wharf, yet another just 7-minute or so stroll from the house. We've been there quite a few times on trips to Boothbay before, and it never gets old. The food is phenomenal, and the atmosphere can't be topped. If you're a fan of mussels, don't miss out on the ones at the wharf. I didn't have them until our last night, and they were the best mussels of the trip by far. They also have live music on weekends, which was so much fun!
Spending a week in this gem-of-a-home was exactly what my son and I needed, as he's headed off to college in a couple of weeks, and I'll officially become an empty nester. Having that quality time together in this perfect little piece of heaven in Boothbay Harbor was such a gift.
We hope to return next year for more walks, food, relaxation, and fun!
