Spacious 2 bedroom and 2 bath millhouse on large corner lot. 1/2 mile from downtown St. Marys waterfront. Beautifully landscaped with deck and fire pit for those cool summer nights. Freshly painted with one king bed, one full bed, full size sofa sleeper and one futon. Also offers office space with a full size futon for extra guests. This house will accommodate up to 6 people comfortably. Pet friendly with a non-refundable deposit applied. Great for a weekend getaway or long term visits. You won't be disappointed.

  • Dungeness on Cumberland Island, Georgia, is a ruined mansion that is part of a historic district that was the home of several families significant in American history. James Oglethorpe first built on Cumberland Island in 1736, building a hunting lodge that he named Dungeness. Oglethorpe named the place after Dungeness, in England. The next Dungeness was the legacy of Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene, who had acquired 11,000 acres of island land in exchange for a bad debt. His widow built a four-story tabby mansion in 1803, over a Timucuan shell mound. During the War of 1812 the island was occupied by the British, who used the house as a headquarters. In 1818 Henry “Light-Horse Harry” Lee, a dashing cavalry commander during the Revolutionary War and father of Robert E. Lee, stayed at the house until his death on March 25, 1818, cared for by Greene's daughter Louisa, and was laid to rest in nearby cemetery with full military honors provided by an American fleet stationed at St. Marys, Georgia. The house was abandoned during the U.S. Civil War and burned in 1866. In the 1880s the property was purchased by Thomas M. Carnegie, brother of Andrew Carnegie, who began to build a new mansion on the site. The 59-room Queen Anne style mansion and grounds were completed after Carnegie's death in 1886. His wife Lucy continued to live at Dungeness and built other estates for her children, including Greyfield for Margaret Carnegie, Plum Orchard for George Lauder Carnegie, and Stafford Plantation. By this time, the Carnegies owned 90% of the island. The Carnegies moved out of Dungeness in 1925. In 1959 the Dungeness mansion was destroyed by fire, alleged to be arson. The ruins are today preserved by the National Park Service as part of Cumberland Island National Seashore. They were acquired by the Park Service in 1972.

Nice stay!

Cute place with everything you need for an extended stay! Nicely decorated, quiet neighborhood and close to downtown. A bonus, if you are traveling with a dog there is a nice dog dog park just a block away.

Great family vacation!

The house was clean, cozy, and furnished with everything you need. The first afternoon we arrived, the girls found board games and we enjoyed playing those. It is located close to downtown and the beach is not too far of a drive. Check in/check out process was easy and Robert was easy to communicate with. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again!

Comfortable beds, good appliances, tastefully understated decor. Very quiet neighborhood. We stayed a month and did not feel it was too small or lacking anything for such a longer stay. We’ve stayed in 3 other properties in St Mary’s over the years and this seemed to be the best value. And free fresh oranges from the 2 yard trees!

The house was perfect for a relaxing vacation. Great location and we enjoyed our walks every morning for coffee and visiting all the stores. Couldn’t have asked for better

We were in town for the birth of our first grandbaby. Having a clean house with a fully equipped kitchen to come home to every night made this stay perfect. The owner was very responsive to our requests. St. Marys got hit by the tropical storm, and the owner reached out to us to check on not only the house, but us as well. We are SUPER appreciative of the hospitality shown by this owner. We look to stay here again and again when we visit! Thank you!!

We came down to St Mary’s because our son is stationed at King’s Bay and was returning from underway. Check in was easy to this very spacious comfortable home. Robert is an awesome host and we will surely be renting this and other properties from him and Scott in the future. Very close to just about everything and we really enjoyed just walking around the neighborhood and town of St. Mary’s

St. Mary's is great small town, centrally located to several tourist areas that we wanted to visit, as well as having a its own history and attractions in town and nearby. Robert was very responsive to our questions. We did have one small incident which he handled flawlessly. His communication and actions for those couple days were greatly appreciated.

Awesome stay at Millhouse

House was clean, plenty of towels and bedding....fully stocked kitchen. Beds were a little soft for us, but they worked. It would be awesome if a couple of more televisions were added in bedrooms. We loved having the washer and dryer to use. The yard is beautifully maintained and plenty of places to sit. The futon couch was too hard for our 11 year old to sleep on, ended up pulling out sofa sleeper for her. She enjoyed the games to play!
