Cute and quaint in the photos. In person, it felt like we had checked into 1992 and no one had been back to clean since. The second we walked in, we were hit with a musty smell that can only be described as Goodwill circa 1985. We actually left, bought a plug-in air freshener, and graciously donated it to the cabin for future guests. The mauve carpet looks original, the furniture made me want to shower after sitting on it, the blinds were dirty, bent and broken, the windowsills were grimy, and the walls had visible marks. Apparently dusting is more of a suggestion here. Blinds are inexpensive. So is Windex. The bedroom ceiling fan didn’t work. Management asked, “Did you pull the strings?” Yes. We cracked that code all by ourselves. The heater did work, thankfully, so no chopping wood out yonder. But the vintage thermostat was basically temperature roulette, and when the heater kicked on it sounded like the cabin was preparing for a NASA launch. Warm? Yes. Peaceful? Absolutely not.The listing advertised a grill. There was no grill. The hot tub was the best feature, although even its light didn’t work. For what we paid a night, “rustic” shouldn’t mean dusty, musty, broken and neglected.Cute in photos. In person, bring Lysol, earplugs, an air freshener, your own grill, and possibly a tetanus shot.
