Peace Lodge - Hand-Hewn Log Cabin In The Woods
Three night minimum stay. Bordering the Manistee National Forest, this property is unlike anything else you'll find. It's a rustic piece of history preserved in a quaint setting. Get away for a week relaxing at a log cabin in the woods away from the stress of everyday life.
You'll find a peaceful place to restore your soul. Nestled in the region of the Manistee National Forest... Curl up by the field stone fireplace or the outdoor hammock with a good book... Take a long walk in the national forest which borders the property... Or spend a quiet afternoon fishing on the lake nearby...
Reminiscent of Abraham Lincoln's birthplace, this hand-hewn log cabin dates back to the early 1800's. The log cabin was originally built in northern Indiana by pioneer settlers from Pennsylvania. Over the years, the logs were covered up with clapboard siding and this preserved them for years.
In 1970, another pastor bought the logs and relocated it in its present location in northern Newaygo County. The log portion of the cabin has a great room with two bedrooms upstairs. About twenty years later, he added a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/dining room. In 1994, we bought the cabin and have enjoyed many summers relaxing and enjoying the peace and solitude. We've enjoyed the lake-access privileges on the quiet non-sports, no-wake private fishing lake nearby.
Bed linens, bathroom towels, blankets and pillows are provided. The beds include one queen sized bed in the master room and four twin beds upstairs in the log cabin.
We also have lake access to a 15-acre private fishing/no wake lake just a five minute walk away from the cabin. We have a paddle boat, standup paddleboard‘s, and kayaks.
NOTE: We do not have trash service as it is not available in the Twp... All guests must take their trash with them OR guests are welcome to take advantage of the township waystation within a few miles from the cabin. Instructions and days of operation are listed on the refrigerator.
FYI: This cabin is about one hour from Lake Michigan and Ludington State Park has a beautiful clean public beach to spend a day.
Check in at 3:00 pm. Check out by noon.
Pets are welcome with prior permission from the owners for an additional $50/pet fee.

The cabin was spotless when we arrived even though someone had stayed there right before us. The owners were so responsive and kind. My boyfriend and I had an amazing trip - the property is incredibly quiet even though there are some other cabins nearby. We loved drinking our coffee in the hammock in the mornings and had a fire in the fireplace during our last night there. We will be return customers! Thanks again!
This is the perfect getaway cabin. It’s cozy, clean, the hosts have stocked anything and everything you could need. We’re already planning our next trip back!
I loved this cabin!! It is in "God's country".... A great experince and such good energy in this beautiful place!! I enjoyed my stay, my animals did too! The cabin, the hiking, the lake, and the neighbors were all a much needed retreat.... I did a lot of healing and I'm very grateful for my wonderful stay!! Than & Lisa couldn't have been any nicer....
We really enjoyed our stay. Everything was clean and a lot of great amenities. The decoration was really fun and vintage. Communication with the owner was great. There is a nice trail nearby too!
From the minute you step in the cabin is inviting. Comfy places to sit and sleep. Hi he fireplace adds to the charm. Large enough kitchen for multiple people to hang out in while prepping meals. Very clean and neat. For activities we took advantage of hiking the gorgeous North Country trail along picturesque lakes and visited nearby Newago for shopping and a dinner. Lovely getaway
Everything was great except for the fact that the water at the cabin was off for a whole day which was somewhat inconvenient for four people. Had to go to the corner gas station to use toilet. Otherwise the cabin was very cozy! The owner said he would make it right with us for the inconvenience.
We loved this place! Very charming, rustic, clean cabin, surrounded by woods. The cabin had all the amenities and coziness. We had a great time hiking the nearby North Country Trail, taking the canoe out on Shelley Lake, and stand-up paddle-boarding on the lake across the street. Hanging out around the campfire and hammock was also super pleasant. Owner was very responsive to messages. Highly recommend this cabin.
Nice, mostly secluded cabin in the woods. We didn’t utilize the lake toys since we were with our dog and out hiking the many trail spots in the area, so I have no opinion there. But the house is great, fire pit/grill are conveniently located just outside of the house, the owners were highly attentive to our questions, overall great experience all around. Would recommend to anyone looking for a secluded cabin, big enough for a group of friends/family. If you are looking for lake fun, just know, the lake is a few minute walk from the house.
The cabin was way better than I expected! It was well stocked with everything you could need from the kitchen to the bathroom to outdoor in the shed! The cabin is very charming i loved the fact that there wasn't really any updates, truly a great log cabin! My husband and I had an amazing time here! The lake was a bonus with the paddle boat and canoes! Finding the dock was a little tricky but nothing major! We enjoyed gathering the firewood and relaxing by the fire pit! We got to reconnect and recharge to get back to or regular scheduled lives! Will definitely be coming back!
Our stay in this 1800s cabin with modern addition was so unique and just what we were looking for. Being off the grid isn't for everyone; however, we enjoyed reading by the fire while sipping our hot cocoa in the evenings. Bring a cd player and some favorite music...we did. All other amenities provided! Caution: Don't listen to OnStar/GPS and use Centerline Rd. to Lincoln St.! Centerline is a trap...especially, after a hard rain...we found that out the hard way. We had great communication with our host and would stay again.
The name says it all - Johnson’s Peace Lodge. This place is so peaceful and charming.. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about this cute little cabin. My husband and I visited from Florida, along with my brother’s family. We enjoyed a campfire outside, played games around the table, and explored the area. The fall colors were absolutely beautiful! My sis-in-law and I enjoyed checking out every square inch of this adorable log cabin. The decorations just added to the atmosphere of being in an 1800’s cabin. We would definitely stay here again!
We found the property to be even better than described. It was very wooded and quiet and peaceful. It had more than enough supplies and utensils in the kitchen for our use. Very nice towels were supplied and plenty of linens. It was very hot while we were there (85 deg) but the house remained cool even without air conditioning. It was fun staying in a real log cabin with all the decor to match. It was close enough to Lake Michigan and state parks to get in some swimming and hiking. We had a great stay!
