Only caution I would provide is regarding steep staircases to second and 3rd floor which given the age of the building, I'd consider the norm. "This is a reasonably nice B&B in a residential area not too far from the train station. Host shared check-in information and greeted us when we arrived. Dining and shopping options are nearby. The breakfast is at a little cafe nearby. While we enjoyed the stay the wood floors are a bit creaky and some rugs might help. Also, while the breakfast was very good and plentiful (boiled egg, juice, coffee, yogurt and croissant) as we stayed 5 nights it would be nice if some variation was offered."

"We had a great 2-night stay at the Volkshotel. The staff were always pleasant and very helpful. The ground-floor cafe was nice and very convenient. (Good to know: When we were there, on weekends, the hotel restaurant and cafe only opened for breakfast at 8 a.m. It seems to be an Amsterdam thing as nothing close by was open either.) Because we were heading out on an excursion, we found a place open for coffee closer to our excursion meeting point. I also liked the location of the hotel. It is in an interesting neighbourhood and within easy reach of the metro. When I made our booking I was a little concerned that we would be older than the usual clientele, but I needn’t have worried. The hotel staff make sure all feel welcome. And bonus! We were offered a free upgrade from a cabin to a room with a bathroom. Very nice!"
