Lake view 3-level 35m2 Apartment in Riex -Cully

  • Enjoy beautiful mountain and lake views from our mini house (3 levels, 35 sq. meters), located in a small winemaking village in the Lavaux, a Unesco World Heritage site. The house is a 12 minute walk from the Cully train station (10 minute train ride to Lausanne & Vevey), and is also served by a public bus service. A beautiful beach is less than 10 minutes away on foot.
    The house has 3 levels: One has a bedroom, one has the living room & kitchen, one is the entrance hall.

    The space

    The top floor offers a nice view of Lake Geneva and the Alps. It includes the living room, with a comfortable sofa-bed sleeping two (1,60m wide, with well-cushioned 16 cm mattress), and a tiny, fully-equipped kitchen (with oven and dishwasher) & dining table (sits four).

    The middle floor also offers a nice view, has a closed bedroom with a 2-person (1,60m wide) bed, and the hallway offers access to the toilet stall and separate shower stall. Note that the shower is a ceramic-tiled cubicle whose door leads directly into the hallway: it is small but practical (a bit like on a boat!).

    The lower floor, at street level, is the house entrance that accommodates a roomy, antique storage closet. A few bicycles could be parked in the entrance. A washer and dryer are available for guest use.
    The whole house is compact, with each level connected via narrow stairways. It’s comfortable for 2 people, a bit cramped for 4 people but it’s a good central base for exploring the Lavaux area, and offers stunning views of the lake, mountains and vineyards.

    Guest access

    By car: Our village, Riex, has some public parking spots on Route de la Corniche (towards Epesses) where you can leave your car for free, for as long as you’d like, if you use a “blue disc” showing the time you parked, left visible on the dashboard (set to 7:30am, as parking duration is officially 11 hours but car can be left multiple days). These parking spaces are a short (100m) walk from the house.

    Arriving by train: Cully station is closest, a 12 minute walk away. Walking up the hill from Cully to the house may be challenging with large suitcases, but a public bus goes from Cully train station up to Riex (2 minute bus ride).

    Arriving by bus: There are two public buses serving the village of Riex. These buses connect with train stations in Grandvaux, Cully, Chexbres and Palézieux. The bus stops are located within 50 meters of the house.
    Walking, bicycling: in combination with the Swiss public transport system, these are great options, as connectivity is fantastic, with trains to Lausanne, Vevey and Montreux circulating roughly every 20 minutes. The Lac Léman is 4 minute, downhill ride by bike or foot.

    Other things to note

    Bed and linens are new. The house is pocket-sized but well located. It’s comfortable for 2 people. Extra guests can sleep on the sofa-bed on the upper (living-room) floor, offering some privacy but no closed door.

    The one thing to note is the small shower room: It’s an enclosed, tiled stall that is fine to shower in, but when you open the door and step out of it you’re straight in the hallway of the house. We just want guests to know that this is a bit atypical, though perfectly usable - a bit like a cabin on a sailboat!
