Walk amongst native Columbian orchids, admire ancient oaks or bring a picnic to enjoy by the pond in this well-manicured botanical garden.

Walk amongst the serene natural displays of the Jardín Botánico José Celestino Mutis (Bogotá Botanical Garden). This peaceful garden was built in 1955 to remember the great astronomer and botanist José Celestino Mutis. Enjoy a picnic surrounded by native flowers and trees, find your zen at a yoga class or watch a live concert.

Explore a network of paths through this 19-hectare (47-acre) garden. Its collection of 18,00 plants are split into signposted exhibits. Watch the shifting environments as you pass between Amazon, Andes Mountain and Orinoco displays. Information boards along the paths provide an insight into the discovery and features of these plants.

The garden houses a display of over 600 palm trees alongside several thousand native orchids. Sink into the aroma of the rose garden, which is home to 70 unique species. Visit a greenhouse that is used to research medicinal and aromatic plants. The Andean forest exhibit features a number of tall oak trees.

After a morning of exploring its tranquil scenery, take a picnic to the ornamental ponds and enjoy the view. A nearby café also serves meals on its terrace. Throughout the week, the gardens host organised activities, such as yoga. Take a class with the kids or see a live music performance at the garden's auditorium.

Find the Bogotá Botanical Garden northwest of downtown. Get there using convenient public bus routes or board the hop-on, hop-off tourist bus to the garden’s entrance. Drivers can use the metered parking near the main entrance.

The garden is open daily and charges an entry fee, though seniors and infants enter for free. Opening hours, admission fees and a schedule of events and classes can be found on the official garden website.
