  • Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves are partly natural and partly artificial caves of archaeological, historical and religious importance near the city of Bhubaneswar in Odisha, India. The caves are situated on two adjacent hills, Udayagiri and Khandagiri, mentioned as Kumari Parvat in the Hathigumpha inscription. They have a number of finely and ornately carved caves built during 2nd century BCE. It is believed that most of these caves were carved out as residential blocks for Jain monks during the reign of King Kharavela. Udayagiri means "Sunrise Hill" and has 18 caves while Khandagiri has 15 caves. The caves of Udayagiri and Khandagiri, called lena or leṇa in the inscriptions, were dug out mostly during the reign of Kharavela for the abode of Jaina ascetics. The most important of this group is Ranigumpha in Udayagiri which is a double storeyed monastery. Other important caves include Hathi gumpha, Ananta gumpha, Ganesha gumpha, Jaya Vijaya gumpha, Mancapuri gumpha, Bagh gumpha and Sarpa gumpha.

Beautiful hotel! The amazing staff and all of the included amenities made our stay wonderful! My parents and I stayed here for a few days and felt right at home. The breakfast spread has everything you could think of and everything tasted delicious!

Amazing stay!

This is the best place to stay in Bhubaneswar. The service provided by Chef Soumen and Kamalika and all the staff was amazing. Chef Soumen took care of all of our special food requirements with such willingness and kindness. Service above and beyond by him. Kamalika took care of all of our requirements too with careful attention. Thank you for making our stay so memorable. All the staff were amazing. Cleanliness was perfect. Highly recommend this hotel.

Excellent … highly recommend

This was a fabulous hotel and definitely one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. Staff were attentive and helpful without being too ‘in your face’. The bedroom was spacious and felt like it had been designed thoughtfully. All the right toiletries were provided too - again it felt like a bit of thought had been given to what the traveller may require. Food in restaurant was lovely and staff were helpful there too. There’s a shopping centre next to the hotel but otherwise there’s not much around within walking distance. If I had to find fault I’d say the restaurant and bar were too cold, and I’d like to have been able to use the stairs instead of the lift at busy times. Unfortunately I was told the stairs were for emergency use only.

Helpful staff

Good service from the staff. I stayed at the hotel during renovation and wasn't initially accommodated well. But the staff, particularly Mr. Rati Kanta was helpful in making us feel better. Overall the stay was good after the initial hiccup.
