Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Barsaloi?
The best area to stay in Barsaloi is typically within the conservancies surrounding the town, as these offer the most convenient access to wildlife and a more structured visitor experience.

For travellers seeking an authentic safari adventure with comfortable amenities, the lodges and camps within the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy are an excellent choice. This conservancy is known for its dramatic landscapes, including Mount Ololokwe, and is home to the 'singing wells' where Samburu warriors water their livestock. Staying here provides direct access to guided walks, game drives, and cultural interactions with the local Samburu community.

Couples looking for a unique and memorable experience will find the conservancy lodges particularly appealing.
When is the best time to go to Barsaloi?
The best time to visit Barsaloi is during the dry seasons, which run from January to March and again from July to October.

During these months, the weather is generally sunny and warm, with less rainfall. This makes it ideal for exploring the natural landscape and observing wildlife, as animals tend to gather around more accessible water sources. It's also a more comfortable time for community visits and outdoor activities.

For those interested in experiencing the local culture and annual events, planning your trip around the Samburu cultural festivals can add a unique dimension to your visit.
