Charming Cottage in Maine
A short drive from Bar Harbor and a 5 minute walk to the sea, our cottage lets you enjoy the Maine countryside as well as the scenic shoreline. Relax on the deck, swim, antique, hike, and take in the charm of coastal Maine from our cozy home. Our delightful, spacious, four-season cottage comfortably sleeps up to five people; there are two bedrooms, one on each floor of the house, both with queen-size beds. All bed linens are provided. There is also a separate loft area with a twin bed. Both bedrooms have closets and ample room for storage. The ground floor of our home features an open-concept dining area, living area, and kitchen, with french doors that let in lots of light. These open up to a large deck where guests can dine, grill, and relax. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, coffeemaker, refrigerator and microwave. There are three full bathrooms, one on the first floor, one on the second floor, and one in the basement. The basement and second floor bath have showers, and the first floor features a large, convenient bathtub. Towels, hairdryer, shampoo and soap provided. Free Wifi is available.
The cottage is located on an acre of private land and is situated between a lush forest and an open meadow. We have a large and grassy front yard and back yard, as well as a deck and a patio area (with a grill) for enjoying the outdoors.
Our cottage is just a quick walk to the shore and the forest, and a short drive to many local sites and activities. We recommend having a car at your disposal. I or my associate will meet you upon arrival to welcome you, show you the cottage, and give a short orientation to the area. At times, as I live quite a distance from Surry, I will be unable to greet guests personally. In these instances, one of my dear friends and associates (a neighbor and long-time resident of Surry) will meet you and introduce you to our cottage. We are all happy to provide information about Surry, the surrounding towns, and other area attractions. Guests will have access to us via phone and email throughout the duration of their stay so that we can answer any questions and help with whatever you need.

Clean. Quiet. Good communication. Nice deck. We had a mama deer and her two little ones visit several times. Barbara gave us great directions but if possible we would recommend trying to get there for the first time while it is still light. Very nice stay!
This cottage was a perfect place to stay to adventure around the Bar Harbor area. We spent the days out, and had the perfect spot to return to and relax for the evening.
We really enjoyed our stay in in this wonderful cottage. It was spotless and comfortable and in a beautiful, quiet spot, a short walk to a preserve with awesome water views from the trail. The host and caretaker each communicated regularly to make sure all was well. A great place.
Our stay was perfect. We were in town for business- anything and everything that we possibly could have needed was thought of and available. The cottage was super clean and we loved the family of deer that visited in the backyard. We will be back!
Barbara’s cottage was perfect for our week away. The location was ideal, allowing us to easily explore Acadia, as well as Ellsworth and Deer Isle, while also being a little remote and an easy walk to a quiet “beach.” The cottage was clean and bright, with everything we needed for the week. The property manager was just a text away if had needed anything. We had daily visitors from deer and birds, which was wonderful. Would definitely stay again!
This was the third time my wife and I stayed at Barbara's cottage in Surry. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the so-called simple things: clean air, starry skies and the hummingbirds who zip around the two feeders.
This is a beautiful home in every way. Rustic yet modern decor. Wonderful amenities, including every conceivable kitchen appliance, utensil, dishware. Lovely deck, overlooking a trimmed lawn and natural field and trees. Super comfortable beds and charming bedrooms. Close to a lovely walking trail and not from a big supermarket in charming Blue Hills. And a super responsive property manager.
We had a wonderful time staying in Julia's Cabin. It was about 45 minutes to get to the Acadia and Bar Harbor area. Cabin was clean, had plenty of towels, kitchen was well stocked, and communication with the property owner and/or property manager was great. Check in was easy as the keys are in a lockbox at the property with a code provided a couple of days prior to our arrival. Surrounding area was quite nice with a nature area that has a trail to one of the bay areas really close by. If you don't mind a bit of a drive to Acadia, I highly recommend this cabin!
This house was wonderful and we had everything we needed to feel right at home. The kitchen was well equipped so we could make our meals when we wanted and the washer and dryer was huge benefit as well.
We really enjoyed the hummingbirds that came to visit everyday. The checkin process was really easy and communication with the rental manager was prompt if there was anything we might of needed.
We would definitely return.
What a gem of a fantastic place to stay! We have stayed at a variety of VRBOs over the past several years (all enjoyable), but this one truly rises above as a great house to rent!
- Clean - This is the cleanest and most comfortable home we've vacationed in. There is an extra level of everything being fresh and sanitized, and it was noticed. The house is beautiful, and also well stocked, well organized, and well set up to just come in feel at home for our stay.
- Great Setting - Surry has the complete Maine coastal/inlet/scenic feel, and was close enough to larger grocery stores and shopping/eating areas to feel convenient too. It is an easy 40ish minute drive to Acadia/Bar Harbor, but also has some gorgeous natural areas to enjoy literally right down the street, as well as other nearby coastal and historic towns very worth exploring (which we learned about thanks to our host). The house is next to an arts community with that feel also being part of the experience, and the distant view of Acadia mountains plus regular sightings of deer and turkeys in the yard are a special treat.
- Perfect Host - All of our interactions and communications with the owner were so very helpful, and above and beyond welcoming and gracious. Barbara and her team thought of everything, and shared so much helpful information about the home and things to enjoy in the area.
We can't recommend Surry, this host, and this home highly enough! All around a super enjoyable/memorable Maine experience!
We love the cottage. It's well-maintained and an easy drive to Blue Hill and Ellsworth. Deer and wild turkeys occasionally emerge from the nearby woods, and the hummingbird feeders are always busy.
Our family spent 5 nights at this lovely cottage in Surry. We hiked Blue Hill and Acadia, explored Bar Harbor and Ellsworth, and loved having this warm, inviting property to come home to. We would definitely rent again.
The home was charming. I loved the view from the kitchen window. We stayed at the beginning of the busy season for Acadia and looked forward to coming "home" each night. Our hosts were instantly responsive when we had a question. I recommend taking a walk to the nearby nature preserve as suggested by the owner.
Cabin is very spacious, clean and cozy. Barbara gave lots of helpful ideas of things to do in the area. Andy was also very helpful. Highly recommend to anyone staying in the area!!
We had an amazing stay! This is a beautiful cottage in the quaint town of Surry. It was a great local spot that we used as home base to visit Acadia National Park as well as some of the local surrounding towns. Plenty of room for two couples or a family to stay. Could not have asked for anything better!
Very clean and comfortable cottage with well equipped kitchen and plenty of space to relax. Just a short walk from a pretty nature preserve and centrally located for exploring the area. Enjoyed our stay immensely and appreciated our host's flexibility.
We had a wonderful month at this peaceful, pleasant, and convenient cottage. We were able to explore Bar Harbor, Castine, and Stonington from this well-located home.
Both the owner and the property manager were very easy to work with.
I highly recommend this cottage.
