Founded in 1780 by Lady Hartstonge and several other benefactors as a “fever and lock” hospital, St. John’s Hospital in Limerick famously treated patients during the Great Famine of 1845-1847. This was one of Ireland’s greatest ever public health catastrophes, and a time when great strain was placed on the health systems and entire fabric of society. Had it not been for public hospitals, the situation could have been significantly worse.

"my lowest score would be for the breakfast. I was not informed how it operated. My eggs were not what I ordered. I did get a super dinner in the bar area!! "
"The hotel was clean. The staff extremely helpful. Alex at the front desk went above and beyond. The beds were very comfortable and the showers had good water pressure and water was hot. The food in the restaurant at the hotel was delicious. No need to even go out to eat. The rooms were cleaned and restocked daily. The area was quiet. Would definitely recommend this hotel!!!"
"High-quality hotel, lovely staff, very nice included breakfast, super comfortable bed, good location. The only issue was that our room faced the street and with the windows open, there were a lot of shouting drunk people passing by (maybe because of the hurling match that day?). But it was fine with the windows closed. Highly recommend"
