Great little cabin!
It was really nice to get away! I wish we had beds instead of pull out couches, but other than that, it was great!

Hello Bonnie, thanks for letting us know about your stay! The owner wanted to share the following: We are sorry that you did not have a 5-star experience during your stay. While bed and mattress taste are subjective we are disappointed this impacted your stay. The listing notes that the property has hideaway beds with inflatable mattresses to prepare guests for their stay. We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests!

Loved it
It was my fault for not reading info before getting there. W/o phone , TV, computer it was so peaceful. Lake Michigan gave us a great display of her beautiful and power.

Incredible location. Mediocre accommodations.
The location of this property was amazing. Absolutely magical. The views, the sounds, the wild flowers. It was just incredible. The house itself is TINY. No actual beds, just pullout couches. The kitchen was well stocked which was nice as we cooked all meals in. It was clean, however could have been de-webbed before we arrived. Having to bring our own towels and bedding was pretty inconvenient. It would be nice to have those items provided. Worst of all was the garbage situation. No garbage service is provided so we were supposed to take our trash home with us… 3 days of cooking meals in, and baby diapers on a 5 hour car ride? In addition to a laundry basket of our wet towels that we brought ourselves? Ridiculous. Also a binder with info on the rental and nearby attractions would have been helpful. Most places we have stayed in offer this and it’s really useful to have all that in one place instead of having to figure things out ourselves (like how the fold out couches have inflatable mattresses inside. Didn’t notice that until we were packing up to leave with aching backs.) Those little touches are what make or break a place. It felt like a lot of stuff in this rental were an afterthought or it was just kind of thrown together as a side money maker, rather than an effort to make it a relaxing get away for guests. Our carpenter friend who joined us wasn’t able to relax looking at the deck that needed repairing and the trim that needed to be put back up. Little details. Overall, it was clean, and the location was so just so beautiful that I hated to leave, for the price of the stay though, the place could use some TLC at the very least.

NICE VIEW but listing misleading
The cottage was pretty much as advertised, everything needed for a nice stay and the view of the lake and lighthouse was nice. I was very disappointed with the listing and had we the complete information we probably would have found another place. The listing did say we would need to bring our own linens and towels. A week prior to arrival we received an email with directions to the property and a list of the property's idiosyncrasies. Among the idiosyncrasies not in the listing, the owner wants you to limit your use of water due to his pressure tank, no internet, no TV and it wouldn't work if you brought your own, and best of all, you have to take away your own trash. You find this out AFTER there is any chance of getting a refund. We had two extra suitcases hauling our own linens, towels, wash cloths, dish towels. and paper towels, by the time we added the trash we had to haul away, the car was pretty crowded. by the time I paid owners fees, for the same average daily price, I found several other places in Door County that didn't restrict water usage, every place else providing an ample water supply is simply a cost of doing business, had TV, and had trash hauled away. Had everything been in the listing chances are, we would have stayed elsewhere.

Perfect Getaway!
This is our third time staying at this lovely home! It's very well cared for, has everything you'd need, and is in a perfect location. There's no phone service, TV, or internet, but that's just fine with us. You go on vacation to get away from the stress of your everyday life and when you lay in bed at night and listen to the waves crash up on the shore, all your troubles just don't seem that important anymore.

Kayaks, bikes, dog.
Property was perfect for our purposes. We where able to go kayaking and biking knowing our French bulldog was safe and comfortable in the cabin. Nights where spent listening to classical music by the wood stove and playing board games. If you looking to disconnect from internet and tv this is a great option!

Treasure in Bailys Harbor
My husband and I and our 2 standard poodles spent a peaceful and beautiful Christmas day and the following day at this amazing tranquil property! It is off the grid. No Wi-Fi, no cell phone service inside the house. We read books, sat by the fire, played board games, took walks, listened to classical music on the sterio there, and watched and listened to the sound of waves. Magical!!! Thank you so much Father Jim for allowing us to make these beautiful memories of Christmas 2018!

Amazing, isolated location
If you're looking for a place to be far from the regular tourist-mobbed sections of Door County, this is it. A nice cottage with amazing views from the loft-like upstairs bedroom, you can see the lake at the edge of the backyard all day, the stars at night, and wake up to glorious sunrises. Although there are some tourists which make the trek out to the Cana Island Lighthouse (about 3 minutes walking from this place), it's barely a handful of people, and never a crowd, like on the main streets of the bigger Door County towns, and you only see them as you drive past. Speaking of the drive, you should probably arrive when it's light out. I arrived after sunset, and while not hard to find, being so isolated, it can be very, very dark. The house itself is fine and well lit, both inside and out, but you'll be driving down smaller and smaller roads for quite awhile, and steadily losing cell phone signal as you get closer. To me that just adds to the fun, but might be stress inducing for the less adventurous. Finally, be aware that the drive into the actual main downtown part of Bailey's Harbor is a good 15 - 20 minutes away. Again, this is fine for most people, just don't expect to be able to wake up and walk down the street to Bearded Heart Coffee (which you should visit, by the way). None of those are cons for me. In fact the only one I could maybe consider a con is that all the beds are pull-outs, which is made clear in the property description. These don't bother me, but I know some people really despise them. Regardless, everything else – the locale, the privacy, the lake right out the back door, the quiet – more than make up for it. It actually pains me slightly to write this review because I want to keep it a little hidden secret… I liked it that much.

Enchanting!
The home was spotless and equipped with all one needed. Being at the near end of a road made it absolutely quiet except for the crashing waves. Having my dog with me made the stay unforgettable for both of us. Every morning waking brought in views of the waves, huge limestone shore, and a beautiful lighthouse while sipping tea in bed. It made a perfect time for forgetting and remembering all that makes up life. The owner was sweet and let me know important details. I appreciated that as well as the fair cost of the rental. Thank you. Nancy & Luby

Beautiful location, wonderful time
Really enjoyed the views and sounds of the lake. We put in our kayaks right from shore at the cabin. We had a fire in the stove on the second floor almost every night and swung in our hammocks we hung up almost every day. One thing to take note is there is no bedrooms and only pullout couches, and you have to clean the cabin yourself before you leave. The previous occupants forgot a few things like a shirt and sweatshirt on the back of a bathroom door and a razor in the shower which took us by surprise. Also, the screen door on the patio doesnt seal out bugs - we opened it when we first arrived at night, tons of mosquitoes came in. Other than that absolutly loved it.

Super cute with a gorgeous view — especially upstairs.
This is a cozy place with a wonderful deck and backyard. It is very close to the lighthouse and the water. The circular staircase and upper level are charming. There are windows everywhere!

Retreat
Took our 2 kids ages 12 and 13. They were not impressed when I told them no TV, no Wi-Fi. They loved it. Quaint cottage, everything you need is there. Previous tenants cleaned cottage well as did we prior to leaving. Not much beach with water high this year but view is beautiful. If you want a true get away, this is a nice spot!

our return to Shalom Stone
This was our first visit to the property in over ten years, and what was appealing about it in the past--the quiet of pre-peak-season June, the dead end road, the sound of the waves, the modest dimensions of the house--remains so.

Perfect Weekend Getaway
We spent 4 days at Shalom Stone and enjoyed every minute of it. Beautiful sunsets, worth getting up at 5:30 am to see everyday! My black lab absolutely loved being able to run free and play in Lake Michigan. We hiked all the nearby state and county parks. The cabin has everything you would need and more. Great place to go for some peace, quiet, and quality time.

A lovely relaxing vacation!
Small little house overlooking Cana Island and the lighthouse, on a dead end street. Beautiful and quiet. The cottage feels really homey and is quite comfortable. The upstairs room was chilly at night- there's a fireplace to use as needed. The views from the top room are spectacular! The couch/bed up there is not very comfortable - next time we'll sleep downstairs. The kitchen is very well equipped, and we cooked some gourmet meals of locally caught fish from Bailey's Harbor Fish Company. The water pressure in the shower was great. There are TONS of board games at the cottage and we played every night. There is no cell phone service, and no wifi and we were a little anxious to go technology free at first, but it ended up by being perfect- we talked, played games, read books, and had the most wonderful time. There's a huge house next door, but it was empty so we weren't bothered by neighbors. We walked to Cana Island "after hours" and took the dogs for lots of walks. We can't wait to go back. Thank you Jim!

Peace, Tranquility
If you love the peace and quiet of nature, you will love staying at Shalom Stone. No TV or phone service to interrupt the relationship building time with spouse, family, friends and God. The home is adorable with great views. Comfy, stocked and convenient. Enjoy the quiet side of Door County! Jim, the owner, is very accommodating!

Relaxing, small, manageable, dog friendly, sketchy cell service and no TV help you to unplug and reconnect by connecting with nature, playing games, etc.
