About this property
Northwinds Adventures - Brook Trout Cabin
Sitting on the property of Northwinds Adventures, a year round camp, the “Brook Trout" cabin features 2 bedrooms; one with a Queen bed (linens provided) and another with 2 twin bunks (linens provided). For additional sleeping space, there is a large leather couch and double futon in the living room or space for a cot. 50" Streaming TV only! Pack and Play available upon request - $10. Harwood floors throughout cabin, bathroom is tiled with a standup shower. A wood burning stove is available to take the chill off in the cooler seasons, firewood provided for $8/bundle. The kitchen is full with everything you need to prepare a great meal after a day outdoors.
The cabin is tucked in a grove of aspens about 100 yards from our very own Love Lake. There is a deck for lounging and a fire pit in the yard. There is also a charcoal grill; but the charcoal is not provided.
Feel free to walk the trails around our 220 acres, paddle a canoe or kayak in our lake, or spend time on our private beach.
Love Lake is a 10 acre, spring fed private lake and there are plenty of opportunities to fish from shore. To protect our population of native brook trout and walleyes we ask that you use only barbless, artificial lures and gently release all of our finned friends back into the lake to fight another day!
If you are coming up to ATV or snowmobile, we ask that you DO NOT ride machines on the property. You can however ride them directly from the property to the trail, a short, legal ride on the roads to the Freda Loop 3 miles away.

We had a great stay! It’s a great location with a peaceful environment and lots to do. From fishing, swimming, and traveling the peninsula, you provided a wonderful home base!
Cabin was a great size for our family of 5. Lots of things do do at the property (paddle boarding, kayaking, horseshoes, etc) and great location for touring the Keweenaw Peninsula.

We enjoy the beautiful nature and the modern/rustic feel
My family traveled to Houghton for our son's graduation from MTU and to pack his things to move him home. The cabin was perfect for our stay. It was a short distance from our son, yet secluded and scenic. It was clean and had everything we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
We have stayed at this location multiple times over the last few years. Always a great place to call home for your stay in the Houghton area. Everything is as pictured and there are no surprises. So much you can do right on the property. You will enjoy a quiet relaxing stay if you choose Northwinds.
Fantastic setting on Love Lake, tucked just a few miles from Houghton. Simple, efficient, open cabin layout with a great kitchen-dining-living area. Deck is a nice value add. Kids loved using the SUPS on the lake. Sunset views were gorgeous.
We had a wonderful stay at what semed like a retreat center (multiple cabins, a meeting lodge, and private lake with beaches). It is a beautiful property. Our cabin was super clean and worked perfectly for our 3 person family! There were so many things to do within an hour's drive - most were less than that. We visited mutiple waterfalls, Copper Harbor - with amazing views, the mineral museum (a must!), and being at the cabin was super relaxing. It is obvious that the owners care about their guests. We would recommend to friends!
This is the second time we have stayed at Northwinds. It is such an excellent location. Perfect for families who need a place to gather. We cooked all our meals in and had plenty of room to invite a few of our sons Tech friends to join us for dinner. The boys took a polar plunge in the lake, and our youngest enjoyed hiking in the woods and enjoying nature. The cabin felt like our own little home away from home. We will be back.
Visiting our MTU student at winter carnival was great. Close to campus but very quiet and dark. Great for stargazing and viewing northern lights. Super cozy and modern. We cooked several meals and had everything we needed in the kitchen. Love the fireplace and the fly fishing theme. Saw eagles and partridges on our walks.
We loved our three week visit to the cabin! It was perfect! The cabin was clean, comfortable, and well stocked! The location was perfect for us with the private beach and lake. We loved having the opportunity to hike, kayak, and just enjoy nature! We were close enough to Houghton to eat out and shop. Michelle and Carl were amazing hosts! They were quick to respond to all of our needs! They are lovely people with a wonderful place to stay. We plan to go back....hopefully, soon!!
Our family spent Easter at this beautiful cabin. It was close to our daughter who attends Michigan Tech. The property was beautiful with trails and in a quiet setting. The cabin was cozy and warm. It was well stocked with everything we needed. We enjoyed the wood burning fireplace, though it did get the place pretty hot. We had the most wonderful time and will definitely be back! The owner was quick to respond and very attentive. We really did feel right at home!
Have rented here many times - another A+ experience
I have stayed at these cabins many times since 2018. The Brook Trout (and identical Walleye) are a nice size for a smaller group. It was just my adult son and me this time, and we enjoyed having the family room area to hangout after visiting family in the area.
The hosts are always great at communicating and accommodating our arrival.
We haven’t used the many activities on the property, but there is lots to do, especially for children and teens.
We enjoy the peaceful, quiet setting, and still just 10-15 minutes away from town.
