Casa Kachina and Guest House in Beautiful Los Altos Great Mountain Views

Arroyo Seco - Los Altos - Half way between Village of Taos, New Mexico and Taos Ski Valley - 8 miles in either direction

Casa Kachina is a unique adobe, two bedroom, two bath home with a 1 bedroom/ 1 bath guest house. Front entrances share a high walled well landscaped and mature tree courtyard. This feature is very unique to the Los Altos Community.

The kitchen is finally appointed with a toaster over, micro wave, a side by side refrigerator/freezer, a four burner gas range and oven, dishwasher, Delonghi automatic grind and brew coffee/espresso machines (coffee not included) and the most scenic El Salto and Taos mountain views available. Views can be enjoyed from the master bedroom, dining room, and living room. The living room and master bedroom have fireplaces which have been converted to "CANDLE ONLY"

The Master bedroom has a king size bed and a two vanity bath with walk-in shower. The second bedroom has 2 full size beds, a two vanity bathroom and a shower /tub combo.

Casa Kachina is decorated and furnished with leather couches, local pottery art by the original owners, along with several fine southwest inspired oil paintings.

The guest house,Casita Kachina, is a 1 bedroom/ one shower bathroom located off the shared courtyard with a separate entrance from the casa. This charming Casita has a luxurious queen size sofa bed , a kiva fireplace with a view of the Mesa and a full bath with walk in shower.

Lovely Quiet Compound

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is a beautiful spacious home with a very well equipped kitchen. We made Thanksgiving Dinner there for the 2 couples and one single who stayed there. The feng shui makes it feel very homey, even though the furnishings are elegant. You can see the Milky from the patio at night. Mountain and open field views.

Repairs Needed; Unresponsive/Rude Mgmt

Rating Details: The property manager was very unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The home itself has nice 'bones' but is in need of much repair and maintenance. When we arrived, the smoke detectors were hanging open with no batteries, the lightbulbs in all the showers were burnt out, and the duvet on one of the beds was covered in dog hair, as were the rugs. I texted the caretaker within an hour of checking in. After 3 hours with no response, I contacted the Property Mgr, again with no response. I continued to text and leave voice messages with both. Finally 5 hours after checking in, I reached each of them. Both were dismissive of the safety issues I raised and actually questioned why I needed them fixed. Finally, by 9pm, our most pressing concerns were addressed. Also, potential guests should be aware that the photos and property descriptions do not match what guests encounter: The "Krups coffee accessories" is a Mr. Coffee. There is no toaster oven. The "wood burning kiva fireplaces," all shown with fires blazing in the photos, have signs indicating to not use them. Each has a single battery operated candle in it, but the batteries don't work. The casita has no espresso machine. The guest room's twin beds have been replaced by a queen bed. Not all the windows are operable. The sliding screen door to the kitchen has holes and does not fit on the slider. The sliding door in the master bedroom does not lock. The master bathtub/shower is extremely slow to drain (takes several hours) and had centipedes crawling up from the drain. It's too bad that the care taker and property manager were so unresponsive and dismissive, because with some serious attention to maintenance and repairs, Casa Kachina could be a beautiful get-away. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, and the views were lovely.

WE were disappointed that the one car garage was not available and our vehicle was left outside for six weeks. The refrigerator/freezer went out and a replacement was ordered. The screen doors on the back of the house did not work and need to be replaced. It's in a beautiful neighborhood.

Family Ski Trip

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house is lovely and in a great location. Our extended family was there for a ski trip. It was a 15 minute drive to Taos Ski Area. One major problem- the secure internet went out after the first day and the manager was not able to get someone there to fix it. (We tried many times to reset the router with no success.) I hope it has since been fixed b/c cell service is not great.

Convenient location for Taos Ski trip but dated property

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Casa Kachina was a great location for skiing at Taos. The place was a tired and not very clean. Kitchen pots and pans were old and dated. Broken glass window, torn curtains, light bulbs burned out, no light in shower, rotted window casing, tiny TV, just a worn down place that needs updating. We looked at other places in the neighborhood and Casa Kachina was on the lower end. I would not stay here again unless it was updated and cleaned.
