Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Arpy?
The best area to stay in Arpy is the main village itself, Arpy, which offers convenient access to the area's natural beauty and activities.

Arpy village is small and picturesque, located in the Valle d'Aosta. It's characterised by traditional stone and wood chalets, and the air is fresh with the scent of pine. The village is the starting point for popular hiking trails, including the path to Lake Arpy, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

For active couples or solo travellers, staying directly in Arpy village is ideal. You'll be right on the doorstep of numerous trails for hiking in the warmer months and snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in winter. The limited number of guesthouses and hotels here tend to be family-run, providing a welcoming base after a day of exploring.

Alternatively, for those seeking a wider range of dining options and amenities while still being close to Arpy, Courmayeur is a good option. It's a short drive away and offers more hotels, restaurants, and shops.
When is the best time to go to Arpy?
The best time to go to Arpy largely depends on your preferred activities, with the summer months (June to September) offering warm weather for hiking and the winter months (December to March) providing excellent conditions for skiing.

For those looking to explore the stunning natural landscapes on foot, the summer is ideal. The trails around Lake Arpy and towards Colle San Carlo are clear of snow, and the alpine meadows are in full bloom. Temperatures are comfortable for outdoor adventures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it great for long walks or mountain biking.

Winter sports enthusiasts will find Arpy truly shines from December to March. The area transforms into a snowy paradise, offering cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating on Lake Arpy when it's frozen solid.
