Me and my boyfriend had a nice first trip to Jordan and Mina-hotel. Mina`s location is very central; there is good restaurants, shops, bazaar-area, internet-cafes, beauty salon, banks and so on, very near by. Almost everything what you need in a holiday, is in walking distance.
Mina itself is nice middle-class hotel, we had extremely good deal from hotels.com. Cleaning is excellent: every day changing sheets and towels and sweeping floors. Staff is polite and kind, my boyfriend even played biljard with management in the top floor bar. Breakfast was allright; changing selection and we sure had our stomach full in the morning.
Room was nice and large, comparing to Europe standard, but little bit noisy. There is road in front of Mina and a mosque very near and our room was in the road side in 6th floor. From other rooms there was no noise but from the hallway yes. But these were no issue, I just put ear-plugs when I go to sleep! ;) I think that pool side rooms has not so much noise. Although I liked to watch local life and people from our road side room, so this was not problem to us.
It was low-season, so there was not so many tourists but it was actually quite funny sometimes to be only customers in a restaurants, very VIP! :D In Mina there was lobby bar, main restaurant where they served breakfast and nice roof top bar, where was nice view.
Only downside which I can think of Mina, is that there was no water in the pool and free WIFI didn`t work. Although management said that we can go to other nearby hotel use the pool and WIFI, so it was not unsolvable problem either.
Few tips: there is not many rooms with balcony so if you like to have balcony, be sure to mention it. We had reguested balcony but there was not any left. Although in our room were three big windows which can open, so it was nice. If you are not smoking person, be aware that there is smoking everywhere. And I mean everywhere in Jordan.. :D And use taxis to make trips, it is cheap and service is good. We went to Petra and Wadi Rum desert with taxi and these were amazing trips! We did not go to swimming but notice that the nearby beach is public beach where local people hang around with clothes on, drinking tea and barbecue, so that`s not place to take sun or swim. There is very beautiful beach about 12km south from Aqaba, Japanese Garden, where is good to swim and explore corals with snorkling or diving. We went there but we didn`t swim because of the low air temperature and windy day but it was beautiful beach.
All and all, I can recommend Mina-hotel to all, who are not expecting five star quality. Very good value of money, central location, kind and polite staff, good service. What more do you need, especially if you have a good deal? We had a lovely vacation in Mina and in Jordan, which is amazing, kind, honest, safe, real, fascinating and hidden gem country, I highly recommend!
