TZITZIFES OLD STONE MANSION

The house is located in a small traditional village in Tzitzifes which consists of two neighborhoods built on two elongated hills that descend from the mountain to the plain and separated by a ravine. At the bottom of the ravine is a very old stone fountain with trees. The houses are masterfully built of stone on the successive levels of the two hills thus providing a beautiful traditional settlement. The view to the opposite villages are impressive. The village's name seems to come from the jujube tree, which grows in the area. . The current picture of the village follows the general image of the Greek province. It produces oil, wine, carob and abundant livestock products. It is worth emphasizing that even the Tzitzifes was the only village of Crete Karabasis production (dafnelaiou) which is used for therapeutic purposes and kalaisthitikous and is now produced in small quantities by a single successor of this popular tradition. There are several enoiikiazomena accommodations and village are 3 dairies and three tavernas with an abundance of visitors - where you can taste and daily chareitai tradition of the place. Ask to try anyway lamb antikristo stakovoutyro, lychnarakia and mizithropitakia, syglino, Apak, sfakianes pies with honey and pies. The surrounding area offers several activities. The possibilities for excursions are many, and offer visitors the opportunity to reveal very impressive panoramas. Also, Crete is considered as a paradise for hikers. Those who enjoy such trips will find many possibilities: walking or cycling The location, altitude and range land and climate of Crete, have blessed this place with a great diversity of flowers and plants. The island is rich in chestnut trees, oaks, cypresses, palm trees, cedars and countless olives (olive oil is the main product of the ground). There are also more than 140 different species of plants and herbs which are endemic, which means that there is nowhere else. The Cretan flora is especially rich in herbs and medicinal herbs such as oregano, thyme and labdanum. There is also an amazing variety of flowers in Crete, like tulips, cyclamen, orchids, etc. Due to the climate and soil area the flowering period lasts more than 6 months (from March to September

A Lovely traditional house in a great setting in the country.
This is a traditional house beautifully presented and furnished with traditional furnishings. It has all mod conveniences including dishwasher and washing machine. The outside spaces are well presented and offer various options at several levels. I would highly recommend this property

Excellent stay in this beautiful Cretan house,
What a lovely home and wonderful warm hosts. We visited as a family with a 4yr old and a 1yr old and we really enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect if you are looking for a peaceful environment and some beautiful nature around. The house is in a very small village up in the hills with amazing views. The village itself doesn’t have any shops. It does have a taverna that we sadly failed to go to. There are villages nearby like Vryses that have all the amenities incl. shops and supermarkets and further restaurants and eateries if you need them. The village is less than 10min drive. You do need a car if you are staying in this house as it is rather remote and there is no public transport nearby. We used the house as a base to explore some of Crete. Many beaches are only 15-20min drive. Chania, Rhetymno and other big towns are within the 30-40mim range distance wise. We even drove to Knossos (about 1.5hrs) and Fragkokastello on the south coast (1hr on the most beautiful road with amazing views -well worth a drive). The house itself is beautiful and full of lovely traditional ornaments. Lots of outside space (terrace/balcony/front yard/garden) and even a slide and swings which our kids loved. The house is well equipped down to toiletries and cleaning products and if you’re traveling with a baby then there is a high chair and travel cot provided as well. Clean towels and sheets etc and as we stayed for 2 weeks the hosts even offered us new towels and sheets half way through our stay. The hosts as incredibly warm and generous. We were provided with a lovely welcome hamper with yummy treats. They were approachable and easy to reach if ever needed. They also accommodated us when we checked out as we needed to leave early. Over all, we would highly recommend staying here - much better than any touristy place on the coast as you get to see more of the real Crete.

Great House, great hospitality of owners! Thanks to Stelios and his wife!!
We had a fantastic stay here - definitely fine. Authentic cretan village, friendly people and a really fine tavern "Tsitsifia" nearby. For those who are looking for an authentic stay with some contact to the people living here but without touristic events exactly the right thing. For all others: stay in Kalives, Almyrida and Georgioupoulis and make use of ai-offers...
