About this property

Historic watermill in the woods with a waterfall (near the A2)

  • Stay in a mill-side idyll! The historic “Riesenmühle” stands alone in an enchanted grove. Feel the spirit of centuries past in a place shaped by the von Münchhausen family—their coat of arms still adorns the facade today. A highlight is the 5-meter-high waterfall right next to the house, whose soothing murmur gently lulls you to sleep. Inside, a large collection of books and vintage vinyl records invite you to enjoy cozy, analog evenings.

    The Accommodation:
This is where history and nature come alive! The vacation rental offers a spacious 140 m² of living space in its own, almost completely detached building. Only one side of the building directly adjoins our home—so you’ll enjoy plenty of privacy. The building was constructed in 1569 by Börries von Münchhausen on centuries-old foundation walls (documented as far back as 1374). The historic family coat of arms still proudly adorns the facade today. Just a few hundred meters away lies the count’s moated castle.

Pure nature right on your doorstep:
The entire property is completely secluded in the forest. A beautiful forest path leads you to a large weir with a waterfall. Another natural wonder awaits just a few minutes away in the forest: the “Mühlenbuche”—with a circumference of over 7 meters and a height of 35 meters, it is one of the thickest and most impressive beech trees in all of Germany.

    Amenities for your comfort:
Living & Relaxing: An oasis for culture lovers. You’ll find a very large bookshelf with hand-selected literature, as well as a genuine vinyl and CD collection for cozy, analog evenings. A TV and a Blu-ray/DVD player, along with a movie collection, are also available.

Kitchen: Fully equipped with everything you need for cooking, including a classic coffee maker.

Bathroom: Spacious with a bathtub and separate shower. A washing machine is also available here.

Connectivity: Free Wi-Fi is included throughout the entire house.

    Guest Access:
As a guest, you’ll have the entire 140 m² vacation home with its own entrance all to yourself.

Your cars are safe and conveniently parked: Free parking spaces are available right next to the house or on our private millyard. The courtyard and the adjacent forest trails are always open to you for idyllic walks to the weir and the waterfall.

A note about the natural soundtrack:
There is a 5-meter-high waterfall right next to the house. The steady, soothing sound of the water is ever-present and can be clearly heard inside the house as well as in the bedroom. The vast majority of guests find this natural sound very relaxing and conducive to sleep. However, if you need absolute, complete silence to sleep, you should consider this before booking.
During the dry summer months, the waterfall may temporarily stop flowing.

Since the mill is wonderfully secluded in the forest, it’s the perfect place to simply unwind and enjoy nature.
