Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Amaya?
The best area to stay in Amaya, Castile and León, Spain, is generally within or very close to the historic core of the village, particularly around the central square or the base of the rock. This historic core is quite compact and is where you'll find the most traditional accommodations and local eateries. The village is built into the hillside, with narrow, winding streets leading up towards the impressive Peña de Amaya (Amaya Rock). The area around the main square often features a church and a few small shops. It's a place where history is palpable, with stone houses and a quiet, unhurried pace.Couples looking for a tranquil and historically rich getaway will find staying in the village's historic core perfect. You'll be able to enjoy peaceful strolls through ancient streets, discover local architecture, and experience the village's character without needing to travel far. The proximity to the Peña de Amaya also offers opportunities for scenic walks with stunning views of the Castilian plains. For those planning to explore the surrounding Romanesque routes and natural landscapes by car, staying just outside the immediate village centre, but still within a few minutes' drive, can be a good option. These accommodations often provide easier parking and a bit more space, while still offering quick access to Amaya's main sights.
When is the best time to go to Amaya?
The best time to visit Amaya is during the spring (late April to early June) and autumn (September to October) months.During these periods, the weather is pleasantly mild, making it ideal for exploring the historical sites and natural beauty of the region. You'll find comfortable temperatures for walking around the ancient castle ruins and enjoying the surrounding countryside without the intense heat of summer or the chill of winter.Spring brings blooming wildflowers across the landscape, offering picturesque views for those who appreciate nature and photography. Autumn, on the other hand, provides a beautiful display of changing leaf colours, particularly in the nearby forested areas, and coincides with local harvest festivals.
