Trogon Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"The rooms though small were well maintained and still large enough. The food was fantastic and the staff was very intensive The property is very well maintained. Only drawback was that the internet is only in certain areas. I had some unexpected work to do and had to do it in the bar because internet was not available in my room"

Lamangata Luxury Surf Resort - All Inclusive

10/10 Excellent

"Lamangata was one of the best stays I've ever had. The property sits high in the hills above the jungle with views all the way to the ocean, and the infinity pool looking out over the valley is unreal, especially at sunrise and sunset. The team plans everything for you. Each morning a hand-drawn chalkboard lists the tide times, meals and the day's activities, so all we had to do was show up. Our surf instructor started us off in the pool before taking us out in the ocean, which made learning feel easy and safe. They also set up a zipline and a trip to the Nauyaca waterfalls, and the transport ran right on time. The food was a highlight: fresh, colorful and made from scratch every day. Avocado toast, tacos, poke bowls, shrimp ceviche, BBQ ribs. Everything was delicious. The rooms are beautiful, with warm wood, stone sinks, soft lighting and a walk-in shower, and they were spotless. The common areas feel open and calm. What really set it apart was the staff. They were warm and attentive and made us feel like family. On our last day they gave us printed photos from the trip with a thank-you note, a touch we'll never forget. I can't recommend it enough and can't wait to come back."

Canavida Villas & Resort

10/10 Excellent

"What an amazing piece of paradise! The property is stunning and the staff is very friendly and informative. I would say a 4x4 vehicle is required, especially in the rainy season. We saw tons of birds and enjoyed listening to the howler monkeys in the morning from the porch. I would definitely stay again and refer my friends!"

Savegre Hotel Natural Reserve & Spa

8/10 Good

"El cuarto siempre lo mantuvieron limpio, el desayuno es estilo bufet y es muy rico, la comida en el restaurante del hotel es muy buena y con precios accesibles, la atención del personal es muy amable y enfocada en los huespedes, el Spa es demasiado bueno, es un punto alto en el hotel, los masajes son de otro nivel."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Alfombra?

The best area to stay in Alfombra is generally right within the town centre, particularly around the main plaza and along Avenida Central.

This central area of Alfombra is known for its convenience and easy access to local amenities. You'll find a good selection of hotels, restaurants, and shops clustered around the main square. The area is quite compact and walkable, making it easy to explore on foot. Specific landmarks include the Alfombra Central Market and the historic church, both located near the plaza.

For couples seeking a relaxing and convenient base, staying in the town centre is ideal. You're close to a variety of dining options, from casual eateries to more upscale restaurants, great for evening meals. Many hotels in this area also offer easy access to local tour operators for excursions into the surrounding natural beauty, such as coffee plantation tours or visits to nearby waterfalls.

Families will also find the town centre a practical choice. With everything within a short walk, it minimises travel time with children. The main plaza often hosts local events or simply provides a pleasant space for an evening stroll.

When is the best time to go to Alfombra?

The best time to visit Alfombra is during the dry season, which typically runs from December to April.

During these months, you'll experience consistently sunny days and lower humidity, making it ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and enjoying outdoor activities. The weather is great for hiking in the nearby rainforests, visiting coffee plantations, or simply relaxing and taking in the stunning mountain views.

For those who enjoy wildlife spotting, the dry season often provides better opportunities as animals are more active and easier to observe. While it's a popular time, the pleasant weather ensures a comfortable and enjoyable trip, great for couples looking for a relaxing escape or families wanting to explore without the worry of daily downpours.

The "green season," from May to November, brings more rain, but it often comes in short, heavy showers, leaving plenty of sunshine throughout the day.
