Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Aikkila?
The best area to stay in Aikkila is the village centre, which offers convenient access to local amenities and the surrounding natural beauty.

The village centre is the heart of Aikkila, with most services located along the main road, Kirkkotie. Here you'll find the local shop, a few eateries, and the community hall. The area is quite compact and easy to navigate on foot, with paths leading to the nearby river Oulujoki.

For families, staying in the village centre is ideal due to the ease of access to everyday necessities and the local playground. Many accommodations here offer self-catering options, which is practical for preparing meals for children. The nearby river offers opportunities for gentle walks or fishing, providing a relaxed holiday experience.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will also find the village centre appealing. Many guesthouses and cabins here offer comfortable stays with opportunities for quiet evenings.
When is the best time to go to Aikkila?
The best time to go to Aikkila depends on whether you prefer the snowy landscapes and winter activities or the period of midnight sun and milder weather.

For those dreaming of a winter wonderland, December to March is ideal. Aikkila is transformed into a snowy paradise, superb for experiencing activities like husky sledding, reindeer safaris, and snowmobiling. The short daylight hours also increase your chances of seeing the Northern Lights, especially between 9 PM and 2 AM on clear nights. This period is particularly good for couples looking for a romantic, adventurous getaway.

If you prefer longer days and cooler temperatures, June to August offers the unique phenomenon of the midnight sun, where the sun doesn't set for several weeks. This allows for extended outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, and exploring the national parks in comfortable conditions.
