About this property

Casa de Arena, Aidone - Exclusive Sicilian Villa with Pool, near Piazza Armerina

  • Casa de Arena is an ancient 17th-century Sicilian residence set in the countryside of Aidone, with panoramic views over the surrounding hills and Mount Etna. The villa is rented for exclusive use and is ideal for families, couples, groups of friends and pet-friendly stays, offering privacy, relaxation and generous indoor and outdoor spaces.

The house preserves the authentic charm of a historic stone residence, with refined and welcoming interiors: stuccoed ceilings, elegant vaulted details, fine furnishings, fireplace, smart TV, two sofa areas, a large dining table and a study area.

Outside, two large panoramic terraces, the private garden, olive trees and citrus grove create a private and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for outdoor breakfasts, family lunches, sunset aperitifs and quiet moments in nature.

The large private pool, 12 metres long and 6 metres wide, with a spacious Roman staircase, is open from late March to late October. The pool area is equipped with sun loungers, a shaded gazebo with table and chairs, barbecue, changing room with bathroom, outdoor shower and minibar.

The villa has 4 bedrooms: two spacious double bedrooms with air conditioning and two charming single bedrooms without air conditioning, equipped with portable fans. There are 2 bathrooms, one with a comfortable bathtub and one with a large shower. The large, fully equipped kitchen is ideal for preparing lunches and dinners at home, also with the support of local chefs on request.

Casa de Arena lies at the foot of the Archaeological Park of Morgantina, 5 minutes by car from the Aidone Museum, home to the famous Goddess of Morgantina, and 20 minutes from the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Caltagirone, Agrigento and local wineries are ideal for cultural day trips and wine tastings, while the beaches of Taormina, Noto and Marzamemi can be reached in less than two hours.

Casa de Arena is pet-friendly. Four-legged guests can enjoy both indoor and outdoor spaces, but for hygiene reasons they are not allowed in the swimming pool.

Parking inside the property, Wi-Fi and a large laundry room are available for guests.

The property caretaker takes care of the daily pool maintenance and the ordinary upkeep of the property. He lives in a separate apartment on the ground floor of the villa, with an independent entrance and no direct view over the pool area. In the host’s absence, he welcomes the guests of Casa de Arena.

The villa and the areas reserved for guests remain for their exclusive use. His presence is discreet, non-invasive and ensures assistance in case of need.

Casa de Arena is rented for the exclusive use of one group of guests. The pool is open from late March to late October. Parking for one or more cars is available inside the property.

Casa de Arena is easily accessible by car: Catania Airport is about 1h/1h15 away, while Palermo Airport can be reached in around 2h30. Syracuse and Agrigento are about 1h40 away. The village of Aidone, with cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries and grocery shops, is only 5 minutes away by car.

Stayed a week, mid July. A proper old country farmhouse, very spacious inside (the two single rooms are small) huge vaulted ceilings are incredible. The pool is huge and is kept spotless, practically lived in it all week. Pietro the host, was wonderful and gave us excellent restaurant recommendations. Haigi the caretaker took great care of our day to day needs.Views are incredible (no photo of Etna does it justice!), it's peaceful and quiet (the hooting owls at night are funny) and only a 4minute car run to Aidone for the daily bakery and deli supplies!Had a brilliant week with my 3 children (17-24) we wanted a change from.the usual coastal madness holidays to just chill, and we got it by the bucket loadsThank you Pietro

Unbelievable!

The property is what you would imagine for perfect countryside villa. The photos on the listing are completely accurate. It feels like a noble family’s villa, with a beautiful pool and amazing views of the Sicilian countryside and of course, Mt Etna. During our stay you could watch the lava flow from Etna at night from the balcony. Surrounded by fragrant citrus and olive trees, it is completely relaxing. The ancient city ruins of Morgantina are a short hike from the house and will fascinate any history buff. Pietro is a wonderfully attentive and responsive host and took great care of us, giving us excellent recommendations for day trips, and ensuring we had enough of everything. Highly, highly recommend casa Arena

The house, the view, the helpful host, and the pool all made for an unforgettable week in this magical part of Sicily. If you are looking for a great base from which to explore Sicily, you will love staying at Casa de Arena. And, did I mention the house, the view, the pool, and the helpful host? Everything was incredible, and Etna even put on an extra show for us!

Delightful villa!

Wow, what a fabulous place! Casa de Arean is a beautiful 18th century villa updated with modern conveniences in a rural setting near the charming village of Aidone. If you want to escape the beaten track of tourists, this is the place! Pietro is a very gracious host who provided all the information we needed for a very enjoyable 2 week stay. The on-site caretaker Hagie was available when needed, and was never intrusive. We had a delightful relaxing stay and hope to return!

A touch of class. The most beautiful place.

Wow! Wow! And thrice wow! What an incredible place. The house has a charm and elegance not often seen these days. The panoramic view from the terrace must be one of the best in Sicily. Breathtaking. Best equipped kitchen I have experienced in a rental property. Pool, lovely. Relaxed and efficient help from the lovely Lorenzo and Federica. A touch of class all round.

Peaceful, spectacular views, very comfortable, excellent pool, extremely helpful property manager.

We had a great 9 day stay at Il Gelso Nero Farmhouse. Federico and Lorenzo could not have been more helpful as they showed us around the property and pointed out the best places to visit nearby. The accommodation was just what we wanted. It is comfortable, has modern facilities (which all worked well) and yet retains many old features which give it the feel of a much loved and quite grand family home. Its elevated position and large balcony area enabled us to take in the spectacular views with Mount Etna in the distance. Aidone is a fine rural town in which we enjoyed eating out, buying local food to eat in, walking through typically old and narrow Sicilian streets and being made to feel very welcome. When not simply relaxing by the pool, the nearby historic sites at Morgantina and Villa del Casale (Piazza Armerina) along with the Museum at Aidone gave us plenty to do without having to travel far. We would love to come back to this property and revisit this region of Sicily.
