Former windmill, Acomb. There was also a water mill on the 1269402; Pevsner says that "the millstream was insufficient to turn the internal overshot wheel in dry summers, so the watermill {now also a private house - MQ} was operated first probably in conjunction with the windmill on the hill to the south and then in the 19th C with a steam engine on the gable wall. The windmill, now part of Lanthorn Cottage, retains a round, tapered three-storeyed tower with chamfered windows and a doorway dated 1720, with the initials RR (Richard Ridley)."

Staff very friendly and helpful. Food in restaurant was really good. Room too warm for us personally even with window open. Bathroom fixtures (bath/shower fittings) could do with being updated/modernised. Overall pleasant stay.
