About this property
Detached Coastal Fisherman's Cottage with Amazing Sea Views.
Experience life by the sea in Scotland. Not just a coastal getaway, your cottage is the seafront itself. Explore the rugged coastline, observe marine life, soak up the sea air and discover a truly historic area.
We have restored the property without altering the original form to maintain its authenticity. The property is a traditional fisherman's cottage with exposed beams and a sunroom with uninterrupted views over the sea. Unusually for a property in a fishing village, the cottage is detached, has private parking for 3 cars and a large garden, loved by families and nature lovers.
All year round you can see dolphins swimming up and own the coast with tides. Grey seals are resident on the rocks and you can hear them calling. Puffins nest nearby in Findon Moor. Enjoy a break wave watching from the bottom of the garden then warming up by the wood burning stove.
The cottage is cosy and comfortable with all the basics like wifi, dishwasher, netflix and central heating. Plain White hotel grade China , pure cotton bedding and high tog duvets.
There is plenty to do along this stretch of the coast- sea kayaking, wild swimming, diving and snorkeling. Great cod fishing occurs from the rocks all year round. In summer the mackerel return in good numbers. Lobster and shore crabs can be caught from the rocks with care. There's a lobster pot and crab line. Climbers go bouldering on the rocks near the bay. At the other end of the village is a small pub for a bacon roll brunch and a pint.
It is a perfect get-away location for nature lovers with wildlife watching opportunities of dolphins, porpoise, peregrines, gannets and puffins. On rare occasions Minke and Humpback whales have been sighted. The surrounding rocks are home to many coastal plants.
Many people use the cottage as a base from which to see local attractions, including the imposing Dunnottar Castle, serene Crathes Castle gardens and Royal Deeside.
Stonehaven is home to an outdoor olympic-sized heated swimming pool and is famous for the fireball display on Hogmanay.
The surrounding region is really beautiful offering some of the best castles in the world - Crathes, Drum and Balmoral. Great gardens and parks and grand mountain landscapes of the Cairngorms. The county is famous for its golf courses and increasing recognised for its cycling routes.
The cottage accommodation offers: Ground floor: Living room with Amazon Firestick and Freesat Smart TV. Double bedroom. Dining table in sunroom and in kitchen. Bathroom. All on one level. Kitchen: Double electric oven, electric hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. Bedroom 2: Single bed (1 or 2) in loft room; perfect for kids. Bedroom 3: Single bed in loft room; perfect for kids. Bathroom: Small bathroom with shower, toilet and heated towel rail. Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen, and towels included. Large lawn with small patio and garden furniture. Garage to store bikes etc. Ideal for couples or small families.
Pets are welcome if you take special care.
Access and parking for normal cars is easy but we don't suggest trying to park a large vehicle such as motorhome. 4x4 are fine. The cottage is off the road. The garden is fenced at the end of the garden but supervision in the village and on coastal paths is needed for young children.
The cosy cottage is situated in a small, peaceful, former fishing village, offering good transport links. It is just ten minutes walk to a train station on the east coast main line connect London and Edinburgh.
For legal purposes, we are only able to allow a maximum stay of 31 consecutive days.

Lovely warm cosy cottage with all we needed for the stay, fantastic garden with beautiful views, small fence at each end and it felt very safe for our dogs who loved it. Lots of places to visit in the area. Very peaceful location, yet minutes drive away from shops etc for supplies. We saw the dolphins and seals from the bottom of the garden, it was perfect. Thank you for letting us stay, hope to be back one day.
It was our second time in this great house. It is perfectly situated in a small cul-de-sac and offers unrivalled views of the sea. It is lovingly furnished and nothing is missing. We would love to come back.

The accommodation has a lovely seating area with a view of the sea and a very cosy living room. Unfortunately, the kitchen is in a state that does not invite you to cook. Some textiles and blankets could be replaced.
Lovely base by the sea with friendly cats coming to visit. Great base to explore local castles and to climb some Eastern Munros. Thoroughly recommended.
Two golfers from Canada played golf in the area for a few days. Property was perfect as a home base. Good location in the Scottish countryside with a spectacular view of sea. Short drive to grocery store.
The views were great. The cottage was clean and set-up well.
Intro booklet received in advance was very helpful. Lots of good walks in the area.
Lisa and David were quick to respond when we had a question.
Really enjoyed the cottage, sitting in the sun room reading a book was special.
Very stylishly and also practically furnished cottage at the end of a small road. Wonderful location with lake view and direct access to the sea via a path into the Cliffs. Seal watching possible from the garden. Quiet nice neighbourhood. Great sitting area in the conservatory - very nicely furnished living room with library - couldn't be better.
5/5 – A Wonderful Coastal Getaway for the Whole FamilyWe recently spent 7 days at the coastal fisherman’s cottage with two kids and large dog, and it was absolutely perfect for us. There was plenty of space for all of us, and the cottage was cosy, comfortable, and well equipped with everything we needed. The sea and countryside views were stunning, we especially loved enjoying a morning cuppa outside while taking it all in. The large sea view garden was a real highlight and the kids and dog spent hours playing outside, and we all appreciated the peaceful, quiet surroundings that made it feel like a true escape. One of the unexpected joys was the neighbouring field with cows our kids were delighted to see them each day! The location is fantastic too, with lovely walks, beaches, and sightseeing opportunities nearby. The hosts were friendly, accommodating and helpful, making the whole experience even better. We had an amazing time and would definitely stay again. Highly recommend for families (and dogs!) looking for a relaxing coastal retreat.
A cozy family cottage for 13 days. The view is magnificent. Watching the sunrise in the morning and seeing the children playing in the garden... perfect. In the evenings, playing comfortably in the warm living room made things good for the family. Lisa and David helped us whenever we needed help. I can only recommend it. Thank you for the wonderful time.
The photos in the listing do not do this house justice. The views from the garden are spectacular. It doesn’t even seem real! There is everything you could possibly need in the house. Fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, floor to ceiling books and a big shower with hot water. We wish that we could move there and stay forever.
Our stay was absolutely fantastic. The cottage was just as described and even better in person. So incredibly peaceful there and the views are indescribable! Loved sitting on the bench and taking it all in. We even saw a double rainbow, end to end! Lisa and David are phenomenal hosts. There was an item that needed tended to and they took care of it asap. They went above and beyond! Location is great as well. Plenty to do in the area; castles, distilleries, museums, hiking etc! The people are friendly and really made you feel at home. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
What can I say? It was our second time in the cottage and it was even better than the first time. We felt immediately at home. The house is beautifully situated, the view is fantastic, the conservatory is ideal for enjoying the time. From Portlethen you can reach the entire east coast, castles, fantastic beaches, beautiful towns and lots of nature. We would love to go back tomorrow.
Thank you Lisa and David for the hospitality, the great facilities, the many tips and the uncomplicated arrival and departure.
And if you ever want to sell the house....
I hardly want to write this so nobody else books but it would be unfair to gatekeep such a perfect property. I cried when we had to leave! The garden and cliff top setting is just heavenly - we spent hours watching the waves, the birds and the sky change. The cottage is spotless, towels and bedding top quality and kitchen is filled with everything you need! Beforehand hosts responded rapidly and during everything was explained thoroughly so we didn't need to get in touch! Can't recommend enough and will hopefully be booking again in the future! Thank you x
The property location was beautiful, being able to see the ocean out the front door as well as a short walk to the cliff’s edge. The living quarters were clean and fairly comfortable, though the kitchen area was quite small but feel that is probably the norm for places in Scotland. The amenities listed on the website noted a washer and a dryer. There is no dryer, so that amenity should be corrected for future customers. Also, we had an unfortunate happening where we did not have hot water in the shower after 4 days of our 8 night stay, but did have hot water in the kitchen and bathroom sink. Appears a part needed to be ordered for the shower and did not arrive in time before our departure. We did get some compensation for our inconvenience of not being able to shower for 4 days. Despite our unfortunate situation with the shower, we did enjoy our time here.
We loved the garden which was ideal for the dogs. The location suited us as it was near our family. We were a bit disappointed that the pub within walking distance wasn't open
We stayed for 5 days but plan to return for a week next year. It have everything you needed and many extras on top. To stand at the end of the garden and watch the dolphins was magical.
This cottage was just as described! The kitchen was well stocked with all that we needed for making our own meals and we enjoyed lovely views at the table while we ate. It was a perfect place to take our teens for scrambling over the rocks on the shore, and finding the cliff path all the way there!
