Last minute.
I booked this place about 3 weeks in advance. There were not a lot of options and I was only using the room to sleep in while I exploded Venice during the day. The night concierge was very nice and helpful. The lady during the day was rude and seemed like she did not care about her guests. The rooms are nothing special. There is a shared shower, which was odd. Other than that, the hotel was fine. Would use as a last resort if necessary.

Excellent budget option for Venice
In such an expensive place to visit like Venice, this hotel was perfect for my small budget. The hotel was a little hard to find in an alleyway off the main street but Venice is a complicated city to walk around as it is. Be prepared for summer heat and humidity - you'll really wish they had screens on their windows to help fresh air come in and mosquitoes stay out. There was a sink in my room which really helped given that the bathroom is shared (one per floor). I never had a situation where someone was using the bathroom when I needed it so don't be turned off by not having your own bathroom - if you're there to sightsee and be out all day, all you need is to shower at the end of the day so sharing the facilities is just fine. Excellent food options abound near the hotel and it's in a great location for public transit. I easily walked to St. Mark's Square by following the "Per San Marco" signs visible all along the main roads. One of the restaurants nearby can be noisy if they're having a party but I found it to be very quiet after 9:30 pm. I brought my own breakfast options and needed to leave before they even served their 5 euro breakfast. No need to pay for their WiFi as there are plenty of free hotspots nearby at cafes and gelato shops. This is definitely not a fancy place but you're there to walk around the city and bridges, not stay cooped up in your room all day. And save a few euros (in cash) for the city tax they charge at checkout. Ciao!

Cute and close, Carino e vicinato
Convenient location, only one bridge from train station, in area with moderately priced restaurants. Cute hotel, quiet, very italian. Sink in room was broken, Room was marginal. Very sweet day desk clerk. Bringing a guest to your room for a short time evokes a phone inquiry from the night desk clerk as to when they will be leaving. (??) Facile a trovare, solo un ponte dalla stazione, C'e una zona piacevole con i ristoranti meno caro. La camera era basso livello, La proprietà era molto simpatica, ma non portate un ospite in camera, meno il proprietà vi chiamerà.

Low price is not worth it
Awkward small, rude owner. I'd spend the extra money to not have to go there again asking for breakfast in the morning was like pulling teeth to she clearly did not want to make it for us. Rude about customers wanting to use credit cards. Why?? The machine is right there it's a problem to use it?? Do not go here you WILL regret it. Thanks

Convenient basic accommodation
Tucked up Parochia S. Marcuola just off the main Strada Nova this little hotel in Cannaregio is easy to find and within a walkable distance from the train and bus stations. Staff were helpful and spoke English. With the hotel as a base all of Venice can be reached on foot or from one of the nearby Vaporetto stops. There are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby, and fruit stalls in the nearby market provide an alternative refreshment. Accommodation is basic but clean and adequate for those on a budget. Be aware there is no air conditioning though, so if this is important to you look elsewhere.

Very noisy, dirty hotel. With unfriendly staff
Stayed on ground floor. Window would not shut. Blind broken too so could see in and out of my room. Very dirty room. And very hot. Staff on arrival was friendly. But leaving the woman tried to make me pay again after me showing her my bank statement. Very cheeky. Bad location too. Close to the station. But out the way for main sites. Would definitely not stay here again!!

Great for the price. Most of the staff was friendly. Location is close to the train station which is important considering the streets are not kind to luggage wheels. It's a long walk to San Marco square, but plenty to do around the area.

Superb customer service
The hotel was very accessible to transportation. Maria, one of the front desk staffs, had our room ready making it possible for us to check in early, gave us a map of the city and provided us information regarding tourist spots. The hotel itself was clean, bed very comfortable, exactly what travellers would need after flying and hauling luggage. The night time front desk staff was also very helpful and addressed our needs.

Terrible! Don't book!
For the love of god, do not book this hotel, its a tragedy, its dirty, run down, the staff are rude and unhelpful, I booked 4 nights (not refundable) but I couldn't stay there for more then a few hours, ended up doing a deal with Maria the hotel owner she wouldn't refund me but was after some debate willing to give me back 50%, so I essentially paid €180 to stay in the hotel for a few hours, found an amazing hotel round the corner! If you like dirty, run down, poorly located hotels without wifi or air conditioning then book this hotel, but if you want your holiday to he enjoyable I would stay well clear of this utter dive! Oh and by the way, even if you get your own bathroom, the communal bathroom is right next door so be warned you will hear people doing their business! Yuk!

Needs a serious facelift...
We only stayed here one night. I guess for the price in Venice, it was "meh". The staff were very helpful, but the rooms were lacking. The bathroom had hair and makeup on the walls from previous guests. The comforter was old. The doorknob of the entrance to our room did not work, so the only way to shut the door was to lock yourself in. The room did not have carpeting, which I am very happy about, given the state of the rest of the room. Bed was soft and comfortable, and since we were only there one night, that was all that mattered and I tried to not think about the quality of the room. Was in walking distance to the station if your traveling with small suitcases.

Fantastic Service
The one problem was the location. Difficult to find down a tiny alleyway (typically Venetian). I did arrange to phone from the water-bus stop when I arrived so they could direct me. In fact I received very good directions from a large Hotel near the bus station, and found my way by receiving further directions from a market stall holder who knew exactly where it was. Having said that, the stay was well worth it. Very central location and the man in reception couldn't do enough for us. Highly recommended !

Great Stay
In a great location but hard to find hotel. If you look for street name on map, just ask for that street and you should find it - it's not really a street but more like an alley way with a sign that says 'Hotel'. Workers were amazing, really helpful! No ac in room, only a fan so was a little warm in the room as we stayed in July. Overall fantastic stay.

Good location, but very hard to find with no sign or directions and no name on the street. Staff was good, but one was a bit unhelpful and one was helpful, but I had to wake him in the morning at 4 am when he did not wake me. The bathroom, which was shared with several other rooms, was often messy, but that is probably due to the other users.

Just okay
Great location, price wasn't terrible. Things we didn't like: hard beds, no internet, no air conditioning and the front desk made us leave the keys when we went out. Leaving the keys made us feel unsafe! Also the front desk closed at 11pm and we weren't allowed in or out after this time so we couldn't stay out late.

Great price. No internet or air conditioning however. The website lists internet so we weren't happy with that, but the people that run the hotel are great. I would not suggest staying at this hotel when temperatures are over 22C/72F. There it's no air flow even with windows open and patrons at the restaurant next door can be very loud.

Should be a hostel
Although air conditioning is stated in the room amenities, there is a 15 euro fee per day usage. Also before you were to depart the hotel to go explore, you would have to give up your hotel key before you left. If you didn't make it back by 1am, who knows what would've happened. The staff was friendly and the cleaning staff did their job. Room was a bit small, including the bathroom cable was included though. Other than that, it wasn't the best stay, but definitely not the worst.

OK for Do-It-Yourselfers
This is a small hotel signed on the busy Strada Nuovo but with the actual entry halfway up a narrow calle. The neighborhood is somewhat downscale anchored between the bus terminal, train station and Casino. Rooms are small but clean with heat and air. Furnishings include a TV, but English-language programs are difficult to find. A starter breakfast is served. During busy season, some guests will be located across a rio in a separate building with flats. Rooms here are typically bigger but front desk service is only provided in the morning. If you elect (or are assigned) to stay here you will have to carry a big set of 3 keys around to unlock the front gate, door, and your separate apartment. The hotel is close by the original European Jewish ghetto, Ca D'oro, two useful vaporetto stops, and lots of shops and restaurants. The main street outside will lead to the Rialto Bridge as well as to San Marco. If you walk from the rail station to the hotel you will have to cross one bridge; if from the bus depot, two (a big one). If you take the water taxi from the airport, you will still have to walk a little, but depending on where it lets you off, you might escape crossing a bridge. For this, San Marcuola would be your best stop. If hauling your bags up and down bridges is not what you bargained for, you might want to choose another lodging with closer water taxi access (note that these hotels are ususally quite expensive).

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! BED BUGS! BED BUGS!
We arrived at the hotel and the staff let us check into our room straight away which is probably the only nice thing I have to say about the trip. Our double bed was two single beds that came apart. There were wood louse in the picture that hung in our room. We woke up at around 3am from being eaten alive by mosquitos and went on an attack against them. The next morning I grabbed my towel (which had holes in it) and went to the shared bathroom for a shower. Inside of my shorts was a rather large bed bug. I showed it to my husband and we googled it to confirm that it was a bed bug and it was. We had killed it and stashed it in a tissue to bring down to the front desk with us. The lady at the front desk changed our rooms for us but did not seem suprised at seeing the bug. The next two nights we were eaten alive by bed bugs. Their bite is quite different from a mosquitos. We went for this hotel for how cheap it was, but in the end I can't honestly believe that we paid as much as we did considering. When we got home we weren't able to bring out suitcases in the house without washing our clothes in hot water and sterilizing our suitcases for fear of hidden bed bugs hitching a ride home with us. It is an expensive process to rid your home and your belongings of bed bugs. They are not easy to kill or be rid of. During the first night, after battling the mosquitos we decided to go for a walk since we were wide awake and see Venice at night. We were very suprised to find that we were locked in. The doors were locked with a padlock from the inside with no one at the desk. I had read one other review that was talking about the bed bugs and the padlock, but I figured there weren't too many reviews talking about them so we'd stay there anyways. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't make this mistake!!! I would recommend staying in a hostel over this hotel.

Really not a 2 star by any means or standards
I am aware that everything on Venice is expensive but that doesn't mean a hotel should cut corners. Where do I begin..... Be aware that there are no bathrooms inside the rooms which is common about budget hotels. However there is no AC when it can get pretty hot during the summer months. Also there was a bug problem and my legs got brutalized with bites all over. The condition of the rooms were poorly kept, there was only one working power outlet near the ceiling next to a tv that literally had no channels. Their "continental breakfast" was also a joke and no complimentary wireless Internet on site either. After this experience I have no idea how this place got 2 stars when a Motel 6 in any place in the states would outshine this one. The only attribute this place has going for them is that they're located on the Venice island and is close to the train station. Aside from that, I do not recommend this place.

Great location, rooms are tired
Hotel Leonardo is in a lovely location, close to the train station, the casino and the Grand Canal. It is also just off a main artery in Cannareggio so you can find everything you want nearby, from restaurants to shops. Check in was courteous and quick. Our room was on the ground floor which meant you couldn't really keep the windows open since there are quite a few people walking down the narrow alley. Also, a restaurant's terrace was just opposite us and it was quite noisy at night. The room featured very tired furniture but the best was reasonably comfortable. The bathroom was small, even by European standards. Breakfast was included but was limited to pre-packaged crackers with jam. Cappuccino was excellent however. We were leaving early in the morning and we experienced the padlocked front door that others have talked about. As we were pondering our next move, the front desk clerk appeared from the breakfast room where he had obviously been napping. The padlock makes you wonder what would happen in case of fire... Given the fact that we insisted on staying in Venice proper and that we didn't want to break the bank, this hotel was adequate.

While the hotel room was clean, everything was old but not in an antique way. There was no elevator, so I was glad we were on the first floor. The breakfast was just a hard roll and packaged hard bread. Definitely not the best for the price.

Good location with a few issues
The room is ok, with a comfortable bed and it's quite big. There was no hot water in the shower and even after we complained about it, the problem wasn't solved. It's one of the smallest places to shower I've ever been to. The WiFi is paid, so that's not good. The location is good, because it's less than 10 minutes walking from the train station and it takes about 20 minutes to get to San Marco.
