“Great place !”
Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic location. Staff ready to go out of their way to help. Would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Milan.
“Quiet spot in the middle of the action”
An efficiently helpful staff and ideal location make the Hotel Antica Locanda dei Mercanti an excellent choice for a stay in Milan. Everyone worked to ensure my comfort. When I accidentally left my door open overnight, the porter instructed people to be quiet so as not to disturb me. The receptionists, particularly the one on the day shift, were also very accommodating. For instance, I was dissatisfied with the first room that they put me in, so they moved me to a much nicer one. Initially, I could not find Hotel Antica Locanda dei Mercanti. Via San Tomaso is short and narrow so it appears only on detailed maps. Locals were, however, helpful in pointing me in the right direction. The rooms are high-ceiling with massive wooden beams and simple but elegant furnishings. Situated between the Duomo and Castello Sforzesco, these two tourist attractions are easy to reach. The famous La Scala Opera House is also very close by. Despite being in the thick of things, the hotel is quiet and restful. The only problem I encountered was that the advertising reads “microwave upon request” but, in fact, microwaves are available only in rooms with kitchens.
“Extremely nice”
Great hotel with friendly and very helpful staff. Great position and lovely big rooms. A very pleasant place to stay in Milan
“Superb hotel in the center of Milan”
Located in an old building. A little difficult to find but no big deal. Absolutely superb service: concierge, night staff, cleaning people, etc. Location - absolutely perfect: everything is within 5 to 15 minutes walk - the Duomo, Sforza castle, Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper, etc. Very nice rooms, mine with a walk-in shower with great water pressure. The only reason I rated room as 4 is because on my first night I could not turn on the air conditioner and had to sleep with my window open so it became pretty noisy in the morning (I was in room #12). It is a funny thing in Italy - in small hotels hvac system cannot handle it when someone wants to turn on the heat and another person (in another room) wants to turn on the a/c. So, if you know that you will want one of those turned on at night inform the staff and they will turn on whatever you desire. Others will be out of luck. My friend stayed in room 33. It faced a much quieter back yard and had a very nice veranda where we had our morning coffee. One very nice feature that this hotel offers (for free) is that they will frame a photo that you can email them and will put it in your room prior to your arrival. My wife was very pleasantly surprised! In summary, I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel.
“"I'm going back"”
After sorting hotels in Milan by review, this one came out on the first page and it was as good as described by previous travellers. The hotel is a hidden gem and Edy and her team are the kind of people that makes a difference to your stay. This hotel is more like a home away from home. My room was beautifully appointed with the added luxury of a terrace where I enjoyed breakfast most mornings. Stepping outside you are in the heart of the city of Milan where most tourist attractions are within walking distance. Not to mention the gourmet restaurants, gellaterias and interesting shops! I'm definately going back to Antica Locanda Dei Mercanti.
“5' from the Duomo”
5' from the Duomo, this hotel is located in a normal dwelling building and may not offer all the amenities of a more "traditional hotel". Staff very was very helpful, the room was nice and spacious but lacked the little details and services that are useful e.g. room services, laundry, a "do not disturb" sign, shoehorn, etc
“2 rooms in milan”
We used two rooms. The location was great. One room had an amazing patio overlooking the street. They served us breakfast on it every morning. In addition the rooms were clean with modern bathrooms. actually the biggest bathrooms on our 12 day trip through italy. Tiny elevator and you have to walk up approx 8 steps to get to that.
“Ok Propery”
The apartment was very spacious and clean. It was great as we were a family with 2 small children. The only downside was trying to find property as this was not well sign posted and the lift was not working most of the time which was a hassle as we had a pram. Also there were workman everywhere and we were not advised that this would be happening. Unfortunatel Milan is not a safe and inviting place and we did not feel safe walking around the city with 2 small children.
“Boutique Hotel That Feels LikeThey Opened Too Soon”
The hotel is located in a great location and the room itself was super cute. The staff was also very nice and tried to help, but I had numerous wifi issues in that it was non-existent for the most part. The more frustrating issues were that one of the plugs in the room fried my energy convertor along with my flat iron. We thought it was a fluke until we used the same plug with another convertor, but I was able to catch the curling iron before it blew as it started smoking. We had no other issues with the one other plug we could find in the room. There were no toiletries whatsoever-not even a bar of soap, shampoo, lotion, conditioner, etc. There was one soap pump in the bathroom that you had to carry with you to the shower or wherever else you wanted to wash your hands. The breakfast that's included is coffee and croissants only. I unfortunately did not find this out until I went to check out and was informed that although the yogurt along with the eggs that the front desk person asked me if I wanted for breakfast were at an additional charge. I wouldn't have ordered them as both days the eggs weren't cooked right, but I said nothing since I thought it was included. On the positive the staff really did seem like they cared, but this is NOT a 4 star hotel. I would NEVER recommend this place and thankfully I checked the reviews right before I left or I wouldn't have found the hotel.
