“Lovely hotel in a beautiful Sicilian village”
The hotel is very pretty and well situated in Castelmola, the next village up from Taormina (a much busier resort). Castelmola is very quaint and peaceful, with a small selection of good resturants and bars. We booked a garden cottage within the grounds of the hotel which had wonderful views over Sicily and was well equipped with everything that we needed. The advantage to the cottages were that they were off the beaten track and were very, very peaceful and quiet. The only disadvantage would be the walk up to the hotel and the village which I would not recommend for the elderly or infirm. The pool area is very attractive and never felt crowded even during Mid August when we stayed there.
“Definitely Would like to go back”
Excellent in all aspects apart from breakfast a little bland and bar/pool service a bit slow. Reception and all other service first class
“Great Hotel!!!! Would love to go back!!!!”
This hotel was in a perfect location....If you are a first time driver in Italy, be prepared for a long trip up....We rented a car, but after we got up there, we left it there. It is curvy road up. The best part of the hotel is the location, as it has great views of Mt Etna and is away from downtown. Taormina is about 15 Euro trip down with a taxi or you can take the bus which was 5 Euros round trip. The Staff was excellent, I have to point out Adrianna, as our luggage was lost, but she kept calling the airline to get the luggage back for us. It made us feel more comfortable.
“Excellent views.”
An excellent hotel with the most beautiful views of Mount Etna. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. An ideal place for relaxing.
“Fantastic hotel”
We have just returned from Villa Sonia & thoroughly recommend this hotel. The staff were really friendly, polite & helpful, the room was beautiful and the hotel is in a beautiful location with fantastic views of Mt Etna. The hotel offers a free courtesy mini bus to Taormina 3 times a day & returning twice a day, which means there are no problems trying to park in Taormina, which can get quite busy. Castelmola, where the hotel is situated is a lovely hill top village with a good selection of restaurants. The dinner in the hotel is also recommended. The breakfast buffet is splendid. We received a complimentary upgrade on our room to a suite & were greeted with a flower arrangement & fruit in the room on our arrival. What a fabulous place!

“A very relaxing and friendly experience”
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Doing what they could to assist. A very pleasant experience in a foreign country. Breakfast was just what was required, not over the top but nice. Is also situated in a stunning area, Castlemola just as picture sue as Taormina itself. Would strongly recommend the accommodation and region as a holiday destination.
“Villa Sonia”
Nice room, fantastic view over Etna, friendly staff......was all good in that respect...... the only drawback for us was that Castelmola is right a the top of a hill / mountain overlooking Taormina which we overlooked when we booked this hotel. Consequently you had to either cab it, or, catch the bus every day if you wanted to go into Taormina, which was only 20mins but got tiresome doing it every day.. At the time we went Castelmola was almost deserted at night as the season was drawing to a close, so, if you didn't want to be out on your own you would need to go down to Taormina each night and have to do the trip up and down the mountain. However, I would think in the middle of high season, Castelmola would be a Godsend as you would escape some of hustle and bustle of the crowds and packed streets of Taormina. Castelmola itself was also lovely...would highly recommend a visit...... but, you may need a little bit of a head for heights doing the mountain road every day on the bus.
“good- but dont stay more than a week”
We booked a standard room and didnt realise our view would be a road around the back of the hotel. this didnt bother us too much but we would have liked a bath in the bahroom. The food is not good at the hotel- we were very lucky we were half board- others on full board were not happy with the evening meals. service at the hotel is very slow, and beware how quickly the bills build up- you are never shown a price list or asked for payment when ordering. the view from the terrace and pool are very very good making it a nice place to relax for the day if you wish. the hotel is located in a small town above taormina with a few nice restaurants and decent bar. Eating and drinking here is much cheaper than Taormina. A very cheap bus takes you to Taormina which is a nice town to spend a day in- at night there are many good restaurants and cocktail bars- venture off the main street to get best value and food. Overall we had a good trip- but i would not recommend staying for over a week as you will run out of things to do locally and excursions are ridiculously expensive.

Area:
Taormina, Italy: A balcony setting on Mount Tauro with a sweeping view of Sicilys coastline and Mount Etna gives Taormina its lasting appeal. It is Sicilys only truly international resort, much-favoured by celebrities. The old quarters steep, narrow alleys are filled with window boxes and painted pottery, and best explored on foot. Main sights are the classical remains and Renaissance palaces. The Greco-Roman theatre is still used for concerts and festivals.
