“Wish we could have stayed longer”
Incredible hotel with a wonderful view from the back of the property. A hidden gem. Very friendly and helpful staff.
“Lovely Hotel”
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Etna. We stayed as a family (2 adults and 2 children) and our room was massive. The staff were very helpful, it was very clean and it had wonderful views of the lemon grove and Etna at the rear. The only minor quibble we had was that the shower enclosure leaked slightly, but this was a minor thing given how much we liked the hotel. The large swimming pool area at the back was nicely done and not at all crowded. We would definately recommend the Hotel. The fact that there werent that many rooms really meant that people were looked after.
“Charming Hotel”
The Hotel was charming - a lovely conversion of a range of old farm buildings with courtyard style gardens and pots of flowers everywhere. There is a proper pool as well - long enough and deep enough for a real swim. The staff were always cheerful and extremely helpful - recommending restaurants, beaches, Etna excursions and even sourcing and arranging an agriturismo stay for our over-night visit to Agrigento. We would not hesitate to recommend a stay at this hotel.
“recommended”
a very comfortable hotel with friendly staff and terriffic views of mt Etna.
“A real oasis”
Giarre itself is fairly dire, but if you have a car then Hotel Etna is a perfect base from which to explore the Catania side of the island, and of course Mount Etna (which you can see from the hotel). The hotel is very pretty, the rooms were excellent, the staff had a great attitude, and their freshly squeezed orange juice was marvellous. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Would definately go back.
“Lemon orchards”
I've not stayed surrounded by lemon groves before, and Hotel Etna is a delight, with beautiful courtyards, water troughs with glowing goldfish, and the scent of blossom wafting as you walk around. Even the car parking space was on grass discreetly placed around the side of the main building. Our spacious room was in one of the smaller seperate buildings near the orchard. The pool looked very inviting, but April temperatures meant there was no way we were going in, but we sat one evening on the loungers drinking some wine, and watching the light go down. Our host was charming, and went out of his way to help us with a car hire issue, driving us to the airport so we could sort it out, which was really appreciated. Breakfast was really nice, and served with a smile (always a good way to start the day). Lovely place.
“AMAZING!”
Hotel Etna is a perfect base to explore the eastern side of Sicily with the slightly northern town of Taormina's castle ruins, delicate streets and spectacular views within a 10 minute car ride, with easy parking costing just a couple of euro's. Further south from Giarre, around a 30 minute drive is the town of Siracusa which makes for a brilliant day out! For ten euro's per adult (and free parking!!), you gain entry to wander around old ampitheatre's and ruins, fountains and lush gardens with small stalls around selling tourist bits. The town of Giarre itself has small cobbled streets with a random selection of shopping, good for half a day out followed by relaxing at the hotel pool, which has spectacular views (and sounds) of Mount Etna. The hotel was perfect as well, large clean rooms with large bathrooms and a fully stocked fridge every day (the prices for drinks match those of the nearby garage). Breakfast was always very fresh with italian coffee made to order. The pool had plenty of sun loungers, and a lovely shaded area to eat lunch (Id recommend the hotels "Piadina" for lunch!) Dinner at the hotels restaurant was slightly on the expensive side but was well worth it due to how fresh and well cooked it all was. Did take some time for the food to arrive but if you want quality, you have to wait for it to be cooked. The staff couldnt do enough for you and Id recommend the Etna tour as the guide was brilliant! Definately stay at the Hotel Etna!!!
“Hotel Etna October 2007”
The hotel is very welcoming. All the staff are attentive, friendly and happy to direct you to local restaurants and attractions. The rooms are very clean, beds very comfortable and all the bathroom fittings are new. The hotel is stylishly decorated throughout. The buffet breakfast is simple but perfectly adequate and the orange juice is recommended. The hotel has installed an excellent pool and patio area and this is a little oasis in a somewhat rundown area of the town. It could certainly benefit from having a bar/restaurant.
“Relaxed and Friendly Stay”
Hotel Etna extremely well-sign posted - which helps with nearby town like Giarre. The hotel is excellent; an oasis of old world calm with nice comfortable rooms, spotlessly clean, a great pool area and a fantastic view of Etna. When restaurant opens shortly this will be a gem. The staff were unfailing kind and make excellent recommendations for eating , beaches etc. They directed us to Lido Ipanema, ideal small lido with just enough to keep family happy without being overly touristy. Warm welcome there for Etna guests too. Hotel Etna within 1 and a half of Syracuse/ Enna, Toarmina/Catania 40 minutes. Etna cable car allow an hour.Be warned Giarre is hectic during rush hour and the banks wont change euro cheques. There is good eating to be had there , mostly fish, but you need to explore off main drag.We intend to return to further explore wider area as this good base.
“Good base to explore Etna”
Hotel Etna has a fantastic view of Etna and is a good base to explore the vulcano and surrounding towns provided you have a car. The hotel is located outside Giarre with the nearest restaurants being a 30 min walk along a busy road with no footpath. The only other downside was the air conditioning in the room was difficult to control and didn't want to go below 26 degrees! However... the room was always clean and very comfortable. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful with lots of knowledge of the best ways of exploring Etna and the surrounding area. All the staff spoke perfect English. Breakfast provided was a wide choice of meats, cheeses, cereals, juices and pastries and coffee and was the best of the hotels we stayed at in Sicily. The pool is lovely with great views of Etna and plenty of sun lounges and entertainment for children (e.g. lilos, balls, bats, water pistols!) Comfortable sofas are also provided in the shade and drinks and refreshments are available on request.
