“Nice hotel, free parking included”

It was a nice stay. Location is perfect. Additionally there is free parking in the garage included. The only negative thing was, that the restaurants were a little bit too expensive.

I thought the Hotel Pestana Grand in Madeira was the best hotel we have stayed in. The staff were all pleasant and courteous and couldn't have been more helpful. On the last day we had a later flight, but the staff still allowed us to keep our car in the hotel parking even though we had technically checked out and allowed us to use the hotel facilities right up until the point we left the hotel. The only bit of a grumble was the meals that you can book in the hotel on an evening were quite expensive for the quality of the meals themselves, which were not particularly spectacular compared to an equivalent Italian meal at a local restaurant. Other than that we have no quibbles at all.

“Excellent hotel with good service and amenities”

This hotel was just what we were looking for; clean & quiet, with a good pool and gym/spa. The buffet breakfast was very good: we ate a couple of evening meals and they were fine, if a little expensive. The room was spacious and very comfortable, with a good view of the sea. The hotel's regular coach service to Funchal was very good.

We really enjoyed the hotel & facilities. Excellent beach view and amazing outdoor swimming pool. Staff were also kind and resourceful. The spa is also very good (although expensive) and the breakfast was excellent and with a wide variety.

Our first trip to Madeira & we loved it! Good hotel location - long walk into Funchal (45mins) but also plenty of shops and eateries near the hotel. Complimentary shuttle bus from the hotel to town mornings and late afternoon/early evening which helped. Hotel itself is elegant, spacious, very clean with a really comfortable bed and reclining basket weave balcony furniture. Lots of public seating areas and great swimming pools. Check in and check out couldn't have been easier and we even got a call the day before departure asking what time we were leaving and whether we needed our bags collecting as well as a complimentary bottle of bubbly on the first night! Who could ask for more? Even the weather was great apart from one day when the cloud descended.

Excellent service from the staff who were very helpful when our luggage got lost at the airport and for ordering taxis & general information. Breakfast Food was good, evening meals reasonable but expensive as were the drinks. Entertainment was relaxing and to a generally good standard although quite variable. Everywhere was very clean and comfortable.

“Second time just as good”

Once again the Pestana Grand proved itself the best hotel we've stayed in anywhere in our limited globetrotting experience. Fantastic location with the pools and leisure areas completely traffic free and surrounded by views of the Atlantic. Great rooms, great bars and restaurants (perhaps a little expensive but what do you expect of a five star?). Our only two minor grumbles were: i) we arrived late evening due to taking the scheduled TAP flight from Gatwick, wanted to eat and the reception suggested room service, all that was available on the menu were sandwiches and when we rang to order they'd run out of bread so we had to go hungry (breakfast was good the following morning though!); ii) they seem just a bit too keen to try and sell us a timeshare, although it is easy to avoid this. Only small grumbles, otherwise the hotel was utterly fantastic, amazing value for money (thanks Expedia!) and we will look forward to returning in the future. And I haven't even started on the magnificence of Madeira itself...
