“Anniversary gift”
We had a fantastic time at Mar Hall. We had a false fire alarm and had to evacuate but the staff were extremely professional and we did not feel inconvenienced. The service is excellent.
“Majestic hotel”
The hotel is beautiful. We stayed there our last three nights in Scotland and the proximity to the airport made it easy the morning we flew home. The location is a quick 20 minute trip into Glasgow, and convenient for side trips to Sterling and Lock Lomond. We reserved a deluxe room in the main building. The room was beautiful. We had a kingsize bed which was very comfortable. The bathroom was luxurious. The concierge and front desk were friendly and helpful. We arrived there to check in at around 5 pm. We wanted to eat in the dining room, but there were no reservations available. We were able to order food in the bar/lounge and it was delicious, but if you are looking for a full meal you might want to make a reservation in advance.
“Oddly quiet, but SUPERB”
We would HIGHLY recommend this hotel. The location was beautiful - very rural, despite close proximity to Glasgow's urban sprawl! We had booked a suite and it was fabulous! Tremendous views and HUGE! We were there to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, but hadn't told the hotel that in advance. However, on returning to the room from the swimming pool (also fabulous) we found champagne/strawberries/chocolates on a plate etched in chocolate "Happy 10th Wedding Anniversary"!!! We realised that we had told the concierge when he brought our bags to the room during a very brief conversation - most impressive service ......... The food in the "Fine Dining" restaurant was outstanding, and the service impeccable. Oddly, though, despite it being school holiday time, the hotel was very quiet - and whilst we had wanted a relaxing time, we did find this slightly unnerving sometimes - I mean, only 3 or 4 rooms occupied out of 60! - it was a bit like being in a very posh goldfish bowl ........ Still, we would DEFINITELY recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a special break - we have stayed in some good hotels in our time, but this one was VERY good.
“SUPERB...is how I describe it.....”
Just simply the BEST hotel, in which I stayed in long time and I stay in hotels more than 6 months per year, all over the world. If you can have room #2, get it. You will be very pleasantly surprised. You would not want to leave the hotel and the room. Try a romantic pick-nick in the room facing the panoramic views of the river, golf club, cows, sheep, flower gardens, green hills, and....... The Italian on-site restaurant's, food, service and setting is excellent. The hotel grounds, views, location, comfort, staff, service, etc etc etc, I would give 5+ stars, if I could. Try it and you see.
“4 or 5 stars..? Maybe 4.75”
Everything you would expect from a luxury country hotel. Is it 5*? Maybe not quite. But overall fantastic. Service impeccable, impressIve building and awesome central hall. A bit lacking in atmosphere. But a great place to relax. Surprised we weren't offered an upgrade as hotel wasn't busy.
“Great hotel after a sticky start.”
Mar Hall is a beautiful hotel with wonderful views. Our room was fabulous but unfortunately we had a long wait for our room to be ready. We finally got our keys at 6.20 which meant we did not have time to go for a swim etc before dinner.
“Amost perfect....”
Fantastic in every respect with the exception of an extremely firm mattress which led to a rather uncomfortable nights sleep. This spoiled an otherwise very enjoyable stay. The staff in particular are excellent.
