“Value for the Money”

“Superbly Bad 8”

This motel takes the idea of discount to new lows. Our room may not have had a proper clean or new linens in decades! The pillows were all mismatched and shot; holes in the bedspreads and burns in the sheets added to the overall sense of disrepair. Filthy windows and a bathroom that needed a major reno didn't impress us either (although, surprisngly, there was a great shower head in the bath/shower unit!) The front entrance was unswept and dog feces spotted the lawn. This was a desperation stay: the last room we could find in Arcata. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

“No attention to basics”

Two Electrical outlets did not work (very loose - would not hold a cord in them), including the one to the mini-fridge, which made that useless. Therefore, almost impossible to use computer in room or recharge phones, etc. Wi-fi connection kept dropping off (only two bars at most showed, even though we were near the office). Clerk had the credit card machine stuck closed for about 5 minutes (needed help) and therefore we weren't sure if we would get our credit card back.

“Horrible”

That's definitely not a 2-start hotel. Worst than motels along the highway. Room was apparently clean, but smelled really bad. Lines were awful old and with several holes.

“Comfortable Overnight”

After driving five hours, I was able to check right in. The man at the counter was very polite and professional and seemed happy to see me. For an overnight stay, it had enough room for myself, my two sisters, and my three year old niece. We were all comfortable. My only complaint would be that the refrigerator came unplugged while we were out and the milk that I stored inside got warm and went bad. Check-out was easy. I would go back again.

“Close to Humboldt State Univ.”

This isn't a luxury hotel by any means but it fit our needs for the one night we were staying in the area. It's our 2nd time staying there. It's clean, quiet & close to Humboldt State Univ. where we visited for Parent Weekend. There's a McDonald's next door & other restaurants close if you choose to not eat the hotel's cold cereal, danish or English muffin. Though I didn't bring mine, I noticed this was a pet friendly hotel.

Area recommendations

Not familiar with this city's neighborhood.

“Not really impressed with the time the cleaning crew arrived/ 5pm”

If they hadnt came in at 5pm wanting to clean the room after we had been hiking all day but they did at least bring us clean towels. I would suggest on a two nite stay that they come a little earlier in the afternoon to clean

Area recommendations

All the hiking trails and forests are outstanding I would recommend to anyone

When to go

Year round its a beautiful place to visit even behind the college there are all kinds of trails and photo opts

Getting there

A difficult drive for my spouse going thru the mountains getting to Eureka but best thing to do is drive in the daytime a lot safer and a lot better scenery

Definitely clothes for different temps one minute you could be cold and the next minute you are carrying clothes

Must see

All the coastal areas are beautiful to me and I would recomend going down coastal highway 1 if you are faint of heart not a good place to be but I loved it.

Shopping

I dont like shopping when i am on vacation but there is a nice mall in eureka

only place I ate was Dennys while I was there and that was great/ Eureka

Love to go to the beach anywhere

“Good but please hold the hookers”

Usually everything is great but on this stay,not so.We booked A queen and got 2 twins,we could deal with that.We booked this room 5 months in advance but clearly got bumped to a lesser room right across from A school on A trip.These were the loudest teens ever,blowing air horns and thing of that nature.We could deal with that even to A point.What was the most ridiculous part was the hooker,thats right hooker,floating around and the finally finding the "room" she was looking for.Yikes,good luck man.Spend the extra money buddy.At any rate,this trip was not good which is strange because ussually this place is great.

Area recommendations

Everywhere is great but don't miss out on Trinidad.That place is paradise.When you're in Trinidad go to The Catch Cafe for the best burgers you'll EVER have.Super friendly people also.
