“Not impressed at all”

I booked one night at this hotel during my layover trip to Dubai. The room was for 3 people, my parents and I. Since we were going to be there only for a few hours, there was no reason to book 2 rooms instead. We arrived at around 1:30 am in Dubai Airport. Since I didn't have any Dirhams on me and the line in front of the ATMs seemed endless, I went to the Hotel's service at the airport and asked for their transportation (to be charged to the room). After a long wait in a parking garage, we were finally picked up by the hotel's vehicle. I was charged 60 Dirhams, and next day found out that a taxi would normally cost 7, so you get the picture, total ripoff from the start. We arrived at the hotel at 3 am. After checking in, went to our room that was nice, but only had one double bed in a very cramped room. I asked where they expected me to sleep since we are 3 people, and I was told that the bed will be brought in shortly. I waited about 30 min to get my bed (BTW this room was booked very well in advance so there was no reason for this). In the morning there were only 2 towels in the bathroom, so, I had to wait another 30 min to get a towel for a 3 person room that i also paid for to begin with. I called the front desk to complain, to hear "yes, you are right, I will speak to someone about this". That was it. Never again. Dubai is full of great hotels with good service, and this is not one of them for sure.

“5 minutes from airport”

Fair price for a quality hotel in Dubai. Enjoyed the food, pool and service. No suprises on my bill or with any part of my stay. This is the fifth hotel I have used in Dubai in 2011 and the most enjoyable.

“Rotana at its best.....”

Our 6 night stay at Al Bustan Rotana was excellent. The room was comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly. We had membership to the Club Rotana and the food was delicious. Breakfast was the best meal of the day. We spent our Christmas vacation there and it was awesome. Will recommend this to any one who wants to visit Dubai. Overall, one of our best hotel stays outside the US.

“Traveler's Dream”

My room was very clean and extremely comfortable -- very much appreciated after a long flight. The hotel is very luxurious and has nice decor, and the hotel staff are very helpful and polite. I only spent a few hours at the hotel before departing the following morning, but all of my impressions are very positive.

“Memorable trip to Dubai”

Al Bustan Rotana was a quick 5 minute trip from the airport, which was appreciated after flying for 14 hours and arriving at 2 a.m. The hotel was modern and beautifully kept. There are four restaurants on the premises, two of which I tried (the Japanses steakhouse and the Thai restaurant) and which I enjoyed. My room was comfortable, with the exception of the shower stall which was very cramped. It was quiet at night, and happily there was no plane noise even though the hotel was so close to the airport. The breakfast buffet had good selection and quality, although the wait staff could be inattentive (e.g. coffee refills). The hotel is not near any attractions, so having your own car or taking a reasonably priced taxi is required. (The main attractions such as the Burj Khalifa, Gold Souk, Madinat, etc. are spread out enough that some car/taxi travel is required no matter where you stay, at least until the metro is completed.) The concierge was very helpful with day tour bookings, advice, etc. In all a pleasant experience.

Area recommendations

The Jumeirah mosque is open to non-Muslims, and offers a tour four mornings a week in which a volunteer explains aspects of the religion, prayer, and culture. I found it very interesting and a nice cultural counterpoint to the architecture, shopping, and hotel pools,

Events and shows

Several tour companies offer afternoon/evening trips out to the desert for dinner, belly dancing, camel rides, etc. They are not all the same in terms of quality and professionalism, so do your research before you book.

“Not bad, but not as good as expected.”

I stayed there twice. First time, in a non-smoking room where the windows can't be opened. Second time I had a smoking room with a door to the pool area. I don't understand why I got fruits every day in the first room, while none of them in the second room. Moreover, it was really a big issue to get the proper number of towels in the room: I had to ask for extra towels but, when changed, I would get fewer back. I ended up picking the towels from the cleaner's trolley on the corridor.

“Very Comfortable”

As a female traveling alone I felt very comfortable in this hotel. Be sure to check with the hotel to understand what the facility hours are if you are interested in using the pool or business club. I got in late, so had limited time and the pool was not open. Breakfast was absolutely wonderful in the hotel restaurant.

Traveller's tip

Take advantage of shuttle by going to hotel office at the airport and requesting. Although previous traveler's have suggested a short walk there is too much construction for this to be practical.

“Great Loc ation and Service”

I have stayed here a number of times and most recently spend a number of weeks at this hotel using the Expedia Best Rate which the Hotel itself cannot match!!! The staff are very courteous and helpful from the Greeter at the Door to the excellent Lobby Cafe wait staff. There are a number of good restaurants in the Hotel from the Excellent Rodeo Steakhouse to the Thai and Lebanese restaurants and it even boasts a Benihana if you are in the mood to be entertained. There is an excellent Bodylines Gym and an outdoor pool if you can handle the Dubai summer heat. The Hotel is so close to the Airport that it is an excellent choice for a traveler over-nighting in Dubai while waiting for a connection. It is close to the old Dubai and close to the new Dubai and Festival City Malls so shopping is a breeze! I will stay there again when I go back!

Traveller's tip

There are a number of excellent dining and entertainment choices to be had close by. The Aviation Club is a short cab ride or a five minute walk away. The Club boasts a collection of restaurants from the Irish Village Pub to Asian, European and Middle Eastern. The Meridian Village is practically next door and has excellent Japanese, Italian and Asian restaurants as well as The Dubliner's Irish Pub with excellent food and Great Guinness!
