“Affordable Three-Star Hotel”

The Admiral Plaza's primarily clientelle seem to be Indian businesspeople and families. It needs some attention to wear-and-tear issues, Even with the hotel's map, taxi drivers didn't know the place. Skip the free breakfast - pretty awful by Western standards. Room was OK, bed adequate, TV, etc. worked. Next time, we'll try the Royal Ascot, which for slightly more looks like a great place!

Area recommendations
Dubai doesn't really have a central business distrixt or main street. It seems to be made up of dozens of districts. Where you stay is largly determined by where you want to be.

“Please Read Review Prior to Selecting”

The Admiral Hotel is a basic hotel with basic services. No bells or whistles. Be aware at during check at the Hotel keeps your passport. Yes, in order to check in and stay, Passport needs to be turned over to receptionists. I was very reluctant to hand it over. The hotel policy, they keep the passports at the front dest in a drawer. When I asked they stated the officials come in in the evenings to confirm and verify guest Identity. I don't buy it, I think they want to ensure that guest do not leave without paying. Unless this is a policy through out Dubai. I would consider another hotel. As far as the complimentary Buffet. I went to the malls to eat.

“convenient,comfortable hotel”

good hotel for the money spent. We had a standard room, but found it was just too small, so upgraded to a larger deluxe room. Our friends also booked a standard room, but their room was almost double the size of our original room, so they do vary. The buffet breakfast was ok, but the breakfast staff could do with a hurry up as they let things run out and don't refill them without some encouragement. Overall, good value for money.

“I would stay there again!”

Very clean hotel, breakfast is terrific-hot and cold items. Room was very nice, and clean. It is in a commercial district, a 25 minute walk from Burjuman-the closest metro station (but they are building a closer one), and a 10 minute walk from Dubai Creek, so if you don't mind walking (which you should be doing anyway) the location is just fine. The price was the best I found online for 3stars and above, and it was definately a great pick. I will stay there again. Pool is indoors and small, and gym was not open, but we didn't fly to Dubai to swim in a pool. There is a business center with internet access available. Can book tours through them as well. Overall, a definate thumbs up! Lots of brass and marble-it was perfect for us! Nicer than a 200 room hotel I suspect! They even have airport shuttle service, although it is on a schedule, not at will! We used it going to hotel but took a taxi (cheap) back to airport.

Area recommendations
We were on Bur Dubai side of Creek, but I don't think it really matters which side for tourists-you can get across creek for 1 Dirham, (25 cents in USD) on the small Abras-takes 3 minutes to get across.
When to go
We went in March and it was 85 degrees Farenheit during day so I'd stay away from June-August if you can
Getting around
For tourists, take the Hop-On, Hop-off bus for 24 hours, to get a good feel for how expansive Dubai is! It gets you around Dubai area and out to the beach by Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Spend a few hours at Jumeirah Beach if you can! We took the metro from Burjuman station out to The Mall of the Emirates where they have indoor skiing! Metro is brand new and they are expanding it. Then a taxi to the beach from the Mall, it was about $3 USD to the beach.
Family-friendly activities
We did the Desert Safari and were not impressed. The 4 wheeling over the dunes was fun but the rest of the night I could have skipped. the B-B-Q was served at 830pm, we sat around for 3 hours waiting for it, and it was lousy in my opinion. But then again, they were serving 800 people-way to many. We were promised sand-boarding which never happened so if you want sand-boarding and brochure (forget the verbal promise) does not specifically mention it, they don't have it! The Burj Kalifa (Burj Dubai) observation deck is closed indefinately as of March 2010, so no tour of the world's tallest buidling! The great big sail hotel (Burj Al Arab) is about $100 USD to go in-so we stayed outside!!

“A place to sleep.”

Well if you need a place to sleep and you like the neighorhood or want to shop there this is OK. The price is reasonable but the small interior pool and closed fitness center won't do you any good if your looking for excersize. The Night Staff are not friendly and frown on partying or female companionship. This hotel does offer a shuttle to and from the airport.

“Good Breakfast”

The best thing was fresh and good breakfast daily. They had good variety of Veg. dishes too. Fruits and food was daily prepared and fresh.

Shopping
Good and clean shopping malls. The prices though it says duty free I found it higher then what I pay in USA. There are better and good quality deals at factory outlets locally.

“Good Value - Great Location for Historical Sites”

Nice free American style breakfast buffet. Satellite TV with mostly arabic channels and a half dozen western channels including CNN, BBC and a few western movie channels. Fast and several hours early check-in. 24 hour reception and restaurant (limited and pricy menu after midnight). 24 hour convenience stores and food stalls around the block. Carrefour Supermarket a 15 minute walk away(open until midnight). 5 blocks from the Creek and pleasant river esplanade, Dubai Museum(extensive history - highly recommended) Big Bus tour stop(pricy but recommended - every twenty minutes buy ticket on board credit card ok) and water taxi stop. Many cheap Indian restaurants and shops around. Money changing centers with great rates.

Area recommendations
This area, Bur Dubai, has all the historical attractions within walking distance. Take the Big Bus tour here(next to the water taxi stop along side the creek(river) to conveniently see all of spread-out Dubai at your hop-on hop-off leisure.
Getting there
Take the subway(red line- best subway in the world with a first class carriage in front for 3x normal fare - all stations will be open by March 2010) $1.50 from the airport and get off at Khalid Bin Waleed station and head west walking 20 minutes towards the ocean down Khalid Bin Waleed Rd just past the bend to Al Nahdha Street just across from the Royal Ascot Hotel or take a nice short, and cheap taxi ride.

“Value for money for a city like Dubai”

This hotel was great, No frills hotel, all in one price, Good location, definitely worth it for money. We stayed 3 nite for long weekend in Dubai, just use this hotel for a good nite sleep, the bed was comfortable, clean sheet ( love the pillow ), good furniture, great breakfast ( not much but quite good as a part of the price ), they provide free tea n coffee maker in the room (didn't expect that service for the price ). Easy to find Taxi, just spend 13 - 15 AED to Burjuman Center ( really helpful) Would be nice if there is Wifi Internet also in the room for free. overall it's value for money and good service.thx guys..

Bur Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The main administrative and shopping district, Bur Dubai contains some of Dubai’s oldest buildings. The nearby Dubai Museum offers a succinct account of the Emirate’s history, while the Heritage & Diving Village recreates its maritime past.
