Most of the staff friendly and helpful. However the vents were filthy in the bathroom, no hand-wash in the room when we first arrived. Bedding only changed once grudgingly following a lengthy discussion with the cleaner. Room not cleaned just bin empty and clean towels. Fortunately I had my own dettol cleaning wipes and spray. It took three attempts to get crispy bacon on my full English breakfast order after manager stepped in to help and I ended up vomiting and being sick afterwards. Didn't do meals there after that experience. Went to the pool once wanted to use the jacuzzi but water looked a bit too brown/cloudy for my liking so skipped the jacuzzi. Honestly overall that hotel is not a four star.

Overall pleasant.Really enjoyed swimming,spa and steam though pool is a bit cold.all tourist places within 20 to 30 minutes walking distance.give plenty of time if getting bus to the airport.rooms not cleaned everyday nor beds tidied properly.

Novotel was well placed, clean and modern. What sets it apart is the excellent staff and those that go above and beyond without even being asked. I travel to Cardiff often so will definately visit again.

Communal areas, pool/changing facilities etc, breakfast and staff all really excellent. They welcomed our dog which was the deciding factor in staying. So very grateful for a dog friendly place. Our room was a bit dated and carpet could do with a deep clean, but we were only there for one night so didn’t bother us. Found the bedding a bit rough and itchy - again for one night wasn’t a problem and I know my skin can be pretty sensitive. But could maybe do with some review. Felt charging us for parking was a bit cheeky given the barrier was up the whole time, no way parking ticket validation or monitoring of those who came and went to use the leisure facilities for swimming lessons etc as far as we could see despite signs stating a charge for non-residents. But it was in T&Cs so can’t complain. Just seemed a little unfair to be charged as staying guests when others didn’t seem to be.

Enjoyable stay and slept very well. Convenient location only 10/15 min walk into Cardiff City Centre. Breakfast was outstanding really good quality! Would definitely return.

Helpful people at reception and in the restaurant at breakfast (which was great) but got a stained bath towel and hard lumpy pillows. Children enjoyed the pool despite it being quite cold. Handy carpark right outside🙂

The hotel was nice, l Good, swimming pool and friendly staff mostly know what they’re doing. Problems would be the breakfast was not as hot as it could be fire alarm being set off at 9 o’clock at night, due to steam sensitivity in one of the rooms. No phones in rooms for calling reception and heating in rooms made it uncomfortable, even with the heating switched off.

We had a great stay at this property (family of 2 adults, 2 kids). Staff were friendly and helpful. Pool and its facilities were great, kids loved them! The gaming area in the lobby was also a big hit! Breakfast buffet was lovely - excellent selection of traditional English breakfast items, continental breakfast items, pancakes etc. We got a deal: adults eat for £12, kids eat free- superb value! Room was clean. Ideally two double beds would be preferred for a family room (rather than a double plus pull out sofa bed). But we put up with it for one night! Would recommend for a very good value stay, convenient location and great facilities for the family.

Did not get to stay as my wife fell very sick and needed an operation.we then could not come with regret as we were so looking forward to staying at this hotle again. The hotel would not help in anyway just took the money would not even help us re book with them. But over all from other stays i cant fault this hotel really ckean staff are so fruendly foid is good and the pool is a good addon

Lovely hotel. The bathroom bath wasnt very clean had to clean bath of long dark hair before i got in it. Not great water speed and not much hot water .

Ok hotel, a bit dated, could do with some tlc. The air con was broken in the too which was not ideal, one of the lights in the bathroom continually flickered on and off and everything just looked a bit tired. The kids were excited to use the pool but it was very crowded due to 1/2 of the pool being cordoned off as it was rented out for swimming lessons. The price was reasonable and would probably use again if the price was right.

Breakfast was excellent and the pool etc was great. The room, whilst clean, did not have an air con/ heating system that worked and the mattresses were really soft. Plenty of car parking available at a good price and it was a 10 minute walk to the St Davids Centre.

We have stayed here previously and had no issue but this time we were given a room on the second floor. On exiting the lifts the carpets were dirty and stained and as we made our way to our allocated room we turned right and not left by accident to find a corridor that was completely dilapidated l. Skirting boards missing carpets ruined, holes in wall and rubbish in the walk way. It would appear that the hotel is hosting Asylum seekers or homeless along side paying customers. We were very shocked but did not want to make a song and dance at the time with the property as we understand the potential plight of these people. Novotel should have advised us as we did feel a level of concern sharing a landing, be it across from the lift on a different wing. Not good enough expedia, you need to identify issues like this and warn customers.

Sadly this property over charges dramatically for what it offers in value. The staff was nice and the pool was nice. However the rooms were expensive and simple for the rates they charge per night.

At first we were put in a very noisy room with a generator type noise but I asked to change and it got sorted fairly quickly. The pool and sauna area was nice, only thing is it's worth highlighting that it's used (at least at the weekends) for swimming lessons so not very peaceful and you don't have the use of the full pool. Also, there seem to be young locals that come and use the pool and so you have to avoid getting splashed. Just worh noting, as not a calm experience as expected. Also at first when we went to the pool area we didn't have a £1 coin for the lockers (which was needed) and when we asked at reception they just said 'we're cashless, we can't help' so maybe reception should hold some of those tokens that can be used in place of a £1 coin. Checkout time was good.We has cocktails made at the bar which we took to our room and they were well made. Very friendly and helpful bar staff.

My room was noisy due to it being next to the service lift shaft and with some kind of airconditioning duct running vertically in the corner of the room. I asked for another room, but they were full booked. Was staying here on business with a colleague who was also unhappy with her room as the toilet was filthy with brown stains in it. The staff were helpful in trying to find us another hotel to stay in but the whole of Cardiff was booked up due to a concert. So we had no choice. I was ok to compromise with a stained toilet and she was ok to put up with the noise so we swapped rooms. However in the morning, my shower had no hot water as the thermostatic shower valve was broken. So I had to have a cold shower. I've been staying in this hotel for a number of years and since the asylum seekers have been here and since left (I think) it is really run down. I expect the hotel didn't bother cleaning their rooms very often and didn't attend to things breaking, so the whole place is a mess now. The aircon system in all the rooms I've stayed in is broken, so you cannot cool or heat your room. I have complained every time I've stayed and they promise to send someone to fix it, but that never happens. I requested a refund given this most recent horrible stay, but was stonewalled by the manager, so that's the final straw. Never again.

Wonderful time with wife and kids. Wonderfully recieved. Breakfast staff were absolutely amazing and always on hand! Would definitely recommend and would come again!

Good location Excellent pool and leisure facilities Good bar/restaurant Rooms need updating and the lighting in the room needs upgrading. There was building work going on during our stay so from 9-45 to 17-15 each day the noise was deafening in our room. Wish we were told of the planned works at the time of check in so we could have requested a change of room location

Have stayed in the Novotel for many years however felt that the service had gone down since we last stayed. We had a family room booked, when we arrived we only had two towels, and one pillow on the sofa bed which was for two. There were hairs in the bath plug hole and around the bath. The leisure facilities were ok, however the layout and the fact that there were baby swimming lessons meant you couldn’t get to the lockers as they are directly above the seats which were occupied with mums and babies. There was lots of mould around the door area in the steam room and the jacuzzi. However breakfast was really good and allergens clearly labelled, they even had a gluten free toaster.

Needs improving
Check in was not good. Had a lot of difficulty understanding the receptionist. It took us a while to work out how to get the Wi-Fi ( had to go back down to ask) and the Wi-Fi wasn’t that good. Room ok, a bit compact. We were one of 3 couples and the rooms seemed to differ in size quite considerably. Good coffee and tea facilities. Fixtures and fittings, particularly the bathroom a bit tired. Needs a shaving mirror. Bar staff nice, helpful and friendly. Staff at breakfast really nice and helped out with allergy issues. Breakfast was very good.
