“Mix of mainly new with some old and low flow”

The hotel has been recently refurbished, with some daytime work ongoing, so the room was very new. Some components are still original, such as the Fareheit thermostat, but functional. Main complaint is the poor flow of the water saver shower; looked great, but the expectation of a good shower was disappointed.

Urban Food behind the hotel has good food and coffee.

“Not impressed with surcharge”

2 holes in the carpet , blood spot on pillow case wasn't a good start. Other than that a comfortable stay in a good area. 20 min. walk to National Museum. NOT IMPRESSED with a credit card surcharge on paying.

“Do not plan to stay at that particular Rydges ever again.”

I have prevously stayed at the Capital Hill Rydges and was very happy with the service there. I would certainly recommend the Rydges in that location but I was tremendously disappointed with the service at the Lakeside Rydges. If it wasn't for their awesome dreambeds and location I can't think of a reason why anyone would stay there a second time.

“NOT BAD”

Lobby area is modern/really sharp. Guest rooms are older but perfectly OK...good TV and shower. Restaurant is a bit overpriced, but food - particularly breakfast - is good. Ten minute walk to several really good restaurants.

Area recommendations

The national capitol complex, and especially the Australian War memorial. If you're interested in things military, plan a full day there.

“Expected a little better”

I have stayed ay different Rydges before. I have always been very happy overall. This time I found our room to be I need of some maintenance, Our glasses were left in dirty packets and when we discovered our tv had no sound, I was told someone would call me back, after three calls we still had no response and no one was sent to our room to seek out problem. Quite disappointed.

“Nice staff, shame about the room”

The building is nothing like the photos that are advertised on the net, rooms are small, bathrooms badly in need of updating, and if i had of seen the real rooms advertised on the net most likely wouldnt have stayed there. In all most staff were terrific, the manager could be a bit bruske and one of the ladies at the juice bar had a bit of an attitude problem, there are a lot of things that need improving with the state of the building itself, would not call this a four star hotel would give it a three star.

Area recommendations

The city centre is fine, however the night life is a bit lacking there, unless you only want to eat and watch movies there isnt much else to do.

“Nice hotel, convenient location, in need of refurbishment.”

This hotel is undergoing a major refurbishment, not before time. There were many aspects of the room that were beyond their use-by date. Presumably the refurbishment will fix these items. Less excusable was the careless manor in which the room was cleaned, with dirt and lint being left on the carpet, in drawers and in the corners of the bathroom. On checking under the bed before we checked out, we discovered a used serviette, presumably left by some previous guest. Very much on the plus side though is the convenient location near the shore of Lake Burley Griffin and footpaths to many of the major Canberra attractions. The restaurant in the lobby is excellent and features a range of dishes that are well prepared using an interesting mix of ingredients.

Getting around

This hotel is within easy walking distance (up to half an hour) of many key attractions in Canberra, including, Civic, the Parliamentary triangle, the Australian Museum and the ANU.
