Okay for a convenient place to hunker down, the Budget Double is honestly a prison cell of a room. The shared washroom is in middle of the level, shared by ten rooms (ladies’ has one shower, one toilet, one sink). The room's AC was strong but there was still a sour smell; otherwise, clean. Window opened (no latch, no screen). No “tea and coffee making facilities" - the "kitchenette" is just a mini fridge; no sink or kettle and warnings everywhere that steam would set off fire alarms at your expense, anyway. Instant coffee machine in lobby required 3 X $1 coins; there might have been tea by the bar poolside. The grounds were decent and the location near the Esplanade was good, and they booked me a 4 am cab to the airport with cost me $25 (10min ride with no traffic).

The security door leading to the stairs outside of our room was broken and did not close properly, thereby allowing anyone to enter. The first morning we found our $20 box of gourmet pastries swarming with bugs. We approached the staff about it and they were dismissive and stated that you cannot have food out in the rooms without getting bugs. They made no attempt to resolve the issue. The next evening we saw two roaches in our room. We had to keep our luggage in our car to avoid getting bugs in our luggage. This was the worst place we have ever stayed.

The room was smelly and dimly lit. And the bathrooms were shared by a lot of people. Luckily, we were in and out at dawn and therefore avoided the crowd. The staff were nice but the property requires an upgrade.

The property was overall a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone. Very helpful staff both at the Cafe, Reception and even the beautiful housekeepers who ensure that the rooms are cleaned and refreshed everyday.
