“We will be back”
From the moment we arrived till the time we departed the staff of the Shangri La went out of their way to make sure our holiday with them was wonderful. No request was too small or too large, whether we needed to make a tour booking, borrow scissors or ask the chef of the restaurant to provide us with some foil to cook our freshly cooked fish in on the esplanade bbq. Thank you and we will be visiting Cairns and the Shangri La again. Next time we will bring our extended family.
“Best Location In Cairns”
My stay at the Shangri La in Cairns was fantastic. The location of the hotel is perfect - very close to the Reef Fleet Terminal, also several good restaurants and bars on the ground level of the hotel. The Esplanade and lagoon are close by too. I stayed in a Superior Bayview Room which was quite spacious and had a northerly aspect, therefore receiving the sun on the balcony in the afternoons. My room was on the second level and had nice views across the water. My hotel room was clean and well equipped, especially with new flat screen televisions. The pool area was great, offering lots of seating both in the sun and shade. Pool bar staff were very helpful, offering fruit and cool scented face washers regularly. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Overall a great place to stay when in Cairns.
“nice choice”
a great hotel in a fantastic location, everything handy and convenient, the terminal is in front to take the tours to the reef and the main city area is just one block away. Ideal one for me.
“A lovely place to put your feet up, with a view as well.”
We found the Shang Ri La hotel staff wonderful, extremely helpful and professional. The location was spot on for dining with many options available for any cuisine and is in walking distance to a wide variety of shopping . The hotel is right on the marina with lovely views and our marina view room was spacious and modern.
“Very comfortable stay in a lovely hotel”
We stayed for four nights at the Shangri La Cairns in an Horizon Club room. The room overlooked the Marina and was very spacious, quiet, modern and comfortable. The Horizon Club room rates include breakfast and a 'happy hour' for guests from 5pm. to 7pm each evening - this included free drinks and canapes. The hotel was well presented, the staff helpful and we would highly recommend it when staying in Cairns. It pays to ask for a quiet room when booking as some of the Marina facing rooms are over the nightclub on the board walk area, which can be very noisy. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cairns.
“Great Hotel but not usual Shangri-la”
Had a great stay in Horizon Club room overlooking marina on Mezzanine level. Very noisy from open bar areas down stairs, even with doors closed and curtains drawn. Could hear everyone walking along wooden floor in corridor at all hours. Attentiveness at food service area on ground floor quite average for class of hotel. Geat location close to all of the CBD features and room layout was very chic. If you are not fussed about sleeping its a very nice hotel but not up to usual Shangri-la standard
“Sad and tired both in service and maintenance”
We booked into a 5 star hotel and received a 3 star experience. Marina view rooms are highest category. Our room was poorly maintained, tired bathroom in need of renovation and a good clean. Mould is difficult to contain in the tropics but in other 5 star hotels they manage it. Shangrila Cairns has not. Stayed 3 nights and on second day had to call housekeeping at 3pm to service the room which was done very cursorily at 4pm. Had to ask for a second hand towel as two people and they forgot to leave a face washer at all. Found lost clothing from previous occupier under bed so clearly houskeeping supervision is poor. Phone by the bed had to be repaired at our request. Public areas also suffer from a lack of maintenance. Pool loungers' fabric is faded, poolside toilets faulty with 2 of 3 cisterns running through. Pool towels old and both had holes in them. Door corners in corridors have been damaged by cleaning carts. One trip to the bar found service was hopeless with us having to pay for 3 drinks for 2 people due to miscommunication / lack of staff knowledge. The final gem was at checkout. Our room was prepaid so only the bar bill from the three drinks above was on the account. We offered AMEX and told there was a surcharge. Offered VISA and again told there was a surcharge. As my Expedia history will attest in the past few months we have stayed at hotels rated between 2 and 7 stars and have not been asked to pay a surcharge. Maybe it only applies to substandard hotels.
“Living the Life In Cairnes!”
Great service and friendly staff. Located near to everything we wanted to do and the staff was more than able to help make arrangements for tours and events.
“Good spot, great choice”
Good choice
“Great View, Great Location”
The hotel is conveniently situated near the Central Downtown area of Cairns. All the local main attractions i.e the Esplanade, Marina, Restaurants, shopping and Casino are all within 10 min or less walk. The Hotel is very clean on the inside, however it could use a little polishing up on the outside. Concierge service was excellent. There is also a tour booking desk next to the check-in desk. The rates for the tours were comparable to other local tour companies. The rooms were decent size and include both wired and wireless internet for free. If a Marina View room is available, get it, the view is fantastic. The bathrooms could have been better but were not bad. It had a separate Shower and bathtub. The tub was relatively deep and big. Larger than i would have expected. Room service is pretty fast and the food is on par with that of most 4 and 5 star hotels. The beds were comfortable, but the pillows were too soft. The only drawback was the television. For what you pay id expect to get a flat screen with a few dozen channels(Basic Cable). What i actually got was a CRT with local channels only. There were some movies available but nothing of real interest. The restaurants in the hotel were above average as well. I'm actually going back to Cairns soon and will more than likely stay there.
