“Good value and location”

The Cairns Holiday Inn is clean, modern, and well located near Cairns downtown attractions. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are relatively spacious and modern. While a little more expensive that some of the other hotels in the vicinity, it is still good value for the money.

“Great respite on my way home”

After some tough travel, I stopped in Cairns on the way home. I was very very happy with my room. It was large, and comfortable, with great amenities. Very high end soaps and etc., plus a lovely pillow selection (firm vs. soft, etc.) and nice bedding. I was very comfortable there.

“Great location, clean rooms, very reasonable”

The hotel was booked at a very reasonable price for Australia standards. The room was big enough for my family (2 adults and 2 kids 10 and 12). It looked higher quality than a standard Holiday Inn here in the USA. The location is awesome, at the Cairns Esplanade, couple blocks from the city downtown and pier where boats leave. Lots of restaurants nearby, at more affordable prices than the hotel restaurants. Would definitely use the hotel if back to Cairns, but I doubt this will happen - if I ever go back to Great Barrier Reef, I will likely go to Port Douglas or Heron Island.

When to go

If you are planning to go to the reef, don't go around late March/early April - weather was terrible.

There are lots of reasonably priced restaurants less than 2 blocks from the hotel.

“great place to stay”

i was very satisfied with holiday inn cairns. hotel was just recently renovated and the rooms were very modern and comfortable. only negative would be the size of the bathroom. for me as a single traveler it was fine, but i see a couple finding it too small to use at the same time. i enjoyed the breakfast buffet several mornings while there. service was great and variety was plentiful. would recommend pots of coffee for faster service versus waiting for each individual person to decide what button to push on coffee machine to dispense their drink. and last but not least, the tour desk person was very helpful in planning two of my outings. she took alot of time with me and made sure i was satisfied with the bookings. overall a very good stay at the holiday inn of cairns.

Area recommendations

the walk along the esplanade was very nice. the downtown area is very dated. meals were very over priced for the quality and portions. but it is a resort type city and you almost expect the prices to be high. had a great time on a raft trip on the tully river. guides were excellent and knew the river very well. did my first scuba dive with quicksilver great adventures. great crew on the boat and the instructor made it fun and exciting to experience the great barrier reef. did an all day tour to barrine lake, mamu rainforest and paronella park. it was a small group tour, which made it very personalized.

“Not impressed”

“Would recommend!”

Had a great stay, staff very friendly, nice and clean, very comfortable. In walking distance to everything you need.

If your from Australia like us and just looking for a good getaway, stay away from the Esplande and all the toristy bits. Found some great pubs near Cairns Pacific shopping Centre down near the railway station. Loved the Daintree!

The Holiday Inn in Cairns was clean and its location was great. The bathroom was a little small but adequate. The Inn had just recently been updated and looked very nice. Good friendly service. We would recommend the hotel...

“Very Impressed”

Hotel was newly remodeled. Felt as though we were one of the first guests in the room. Wish all Holiday Inns looked like this. Hotel and tour staff was helpful. Very close to restaurants and walking distance to boat piers.

“A Good Idea If You Must Overnight in Cairns”

I travel to Australia frequently. Unfortunately, the only direct route from my home to Australia arrivesat Cairns late at night, after all the connecting flights have left, so I have to stay overnight. The Holiday Inn is a pleasant and comfortable place to stay. The staff is friendly, the hotel has lots of amenities, and the breakfast buffet is excellent.

“Comfy room”

The only real problem I had with this room was its proximity to a rather busy road which seemed to have activity day and night; it was easily heard through the closed balcony door. The room, itself, however, was spacious, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Breakfast buffet was excellent and I really enjoyed the choose-for-yourself espresso/cappucino/latte/coffee machine. Nice touch!
