Everything about Al Cappello Rosso was just right. The location in the historical center was ideal, just steps from the Piazza Maggiore. Several terrific restaurants were within a five-minute walk. The availability of secure parking was a great benefit. The staff members could not have been more kind or accommodating. The room and its well equipped bathroom were comfortable, and exactly what we needed. The Hotel Al Cappello Rosso was the perfect spot from which to experience Bologna. If I am ever so fortunate to visit Bologna again, I will definitely reserve a room at Al Cappello Rosso again.
We stayed here for 3 nights in 2 adjoining rooms. The location was perfect for traveling in by train and near all the centrally located stores and sites. The breakfast was great. Our room was on the smoking floor (the only available adjoining room) and while the floor was somewhat smelly and dark, the rooms were not bad. The windows could be opened but we faced the train station so we didn't open them for the noise. When they were closed there was absolute silence--very soundproofed. The beds were comfortable and the bath was spacious. I'd stay here again but would probably choose a non-smoking floor.
We booked this hotel because of its rating and central location, less than a 10 minute walk from both the bus station and the centre of town. Spotlessly clean and welcoming, helpful staff and the usual continental breakfast found in all similar hotels.

The beautiful young woman at the front desk was very helpful and spoke wonderful english. When we asked her for the name of a restaurant (on a Sunday when many were closed) if you had only 1 night to spend in Bologna, she made a fantastic suggestion. The bed was a king that was firm and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was ok. Good value for the price.
"Good choice of hotel which I am happy to recommend"
It is an easy journey to/from airport, both taxi fares under 20 euros. Hotel is well located with main square etc just a 5 minute stroll away. We asked for, and got, a quiet room. Reasonable size and facilities. Everything worked. Excellent desk folk and always helpful. Good breakfast with marvellous coffee! We had only four days and on that basis I felt one day was about right for Bologna itself especially as we returned each night - decent local restaurants. The train station is 10 - 15 minutes easy stroll away but I would recommend buying tickets night before if possible. We went out on day trips to Ferrara (a pretty small town but maximum one day and with a car then maybe less), to Ravenna (sadly in the rain as though the mosaics are truly wonderful I should have loved to see them sparkling on a sunny day. Admittedly less time available as the train journey was 1hour 20 minutes but I would have been happy to spend a little more time in Ravenna armed now with some knowledge) and then to Verona which we loved. This being a spur of moment trip we had done no research and rather longer time would have been a good idea. Serendipity gave us a memorable, and pretty cheap lunch by the river. The train service is very cheap by English standards, and quite reliable. We paid more to go to Verona to gain the benefit of a non stop train, journey time 50 minutes but still well worth while.
