“A great place!”
We stayed during the off or 'low' season. But the staff was every attentive and helpful. Our room was right off the beach and we sat out and watched the sunset. We were also able to rent bikes directly from hotel and rode out to Cabo San Vincente.
“review of stay oct 2011”
well what can i say , i was pleasantly surprised, this is the first review ive done, but as i read up on so many before making a decision i thought i aught to spend the time writing an honest warts an all review, ok the place sagres, a largrly unspoilt little port village, its small but everything you need is there, some decent size supermarkets selling uk papers and fags, and from the martinhall you just walk to the end of the beach and up a hill then your right in town, you can see it from the beach at the resort on your right, the resort, some top accom, and i travel the world in the oil and gas industry so get thrown in all weird and wonderfull hotels, the rooms where fantastic, me and my girlfriend had a 3 bedroom garden villa, everything in there for self catering, including neff ovens and halogen tops all the crockery and cutlery is a1 stuff, and i work in the catering industry, a washing machine, dishwasher, freeview channels on an lcd, everything with a pool in the garden that was empty ...fantastic, to be fair the seasons winding down now, so it wasnt as busy as normal, being honest it would be spoilt in peak season as there is kids running loose everywhere, all catered for as far as i could make out, but i was spoilt i think as the place was half empty, if you can get there these coming weeks ...your laughing, the downside, the restaurants on site are really nice but pricey , a decent meal for 2 with just drinks set us back 80 euros.................. more below
“Out of season peace”
We went to this hotel out of season so it was very quiet. This was good for us. However it is obvious the hotel is geared up for families with children;even the few who were there were a disturbance in the pool and breakfast room etc. Overall a very nice hotel which we enjoyed very much. The staff were superb and room was excellent.
“Great place for children”
Enjoyed our week here in a Garden house with our 5 month old baby. Great to be able to go out for good food at the hotel restaurant and have her with us in the pram (and not be the only ones with a little one!). Having only just become parents I think we would have been a bit overwhelmed at this resort in the past as there are a lot of kids!!
“Beautiful, Modern and Remote”
I booked this trip as a birthday surprise for my sister. The hotel is located over an hour from the airport so the private transfer was a bit pricey but the driver who is allocated to the hotel was so friendly, welcoming and full of local information. First impressions were - the resort is modern, beautifully designed, with spectacular views of the sea and Sagres. The hotel is very comtemporary but has a homely feel to it. The rooms are exceptional, with little touches like the spa products free in the bathroom, huge bath and rain shower, modern furniture with a furry beanbag too! The beach that the hotel is situated is quiet and secluded. The staff were so helpful and sincerely friendly. The hotel is small with about 30 rooms but this is because the resort is mainly made up of villas, aimed at families. All rooms in the hotel have a balcony overlooking the sea. The nearest town is Sagres which is very small and Lagos which is 30 mins away is slightly larger but the shops are mostly aimed at tourists. There is a spa, with friendly and competent staff and the prices are what you'd expect for a hotel spa. The hotel is relatively new as it opened last May and I'm sure that it will get very busy in the summer months. There's not much to do, so this is the place to go if you want peace and quiet away from it all. Overall we loved the Hotel Martinhal!

Area:
Sagres, Portugal: Sagres is synonymous with the dramatically sited fort of Henry the Navigator. Here at the westernmost tip of the known world, Prince Henry planned the 15th-century Portuguese Age of Discoveries. Every coach tour calls here, then onto nearby Lands End at Cape St Vincent. The town of Sagres still has a frontier feel to it, patronised by independent travellers. The windswept, undeveloped beaches around here are the most dramatic in the Algarve.
