The border town of Hondarribia (“Fuenterrabia” in Basque) is situated in northern Basque country at the mouth of the Bidasoa River, 22 kilometres from San Sebastian. Various sieges afflicted Hondarribia over the years and the old-town area, with churches and palaces built in Baroque and Gothic styles, is still bound by walls. A wide beach and seaside district are also popular with tourists.
