Description

The Princes' Islands, once a retreat for exiled royalty, offer a beautiful setting for you to spend a day away from the bustle of Istanbul. Take a cruise to the largest of the islands and see mansions, palaces, churches, and convents from its long and storied history with a guided walking tour.

A convenient pick-up from your central Istanbul hotel takes you to the pier, where you meet your guide and set out for a cruise out to the island of Büyükada. Located just a few miles from the city in the Sea of Marmara, Büyükada is the largest and most populous of the Princes' Islands, and was used to hold exiled nobility dating back to the Byzantine era.

Walk along the paths that hosted pivotal figures of their times, from Byzantine empresses Irene of Athens and Anna Dalassena to Soviet revolutionary Leon Trotsky. Along the way, your guide shows you historic buildings like the 6th-century Ayia Yorgi Church and Monastery, as well as several Ottoman-era mansions, for a look through the storied history of the great empires that held sway here.

Great tour. Eye-catching panoramic views while cruising. Strolling on the island was pleasant and peaceful. The tour guide, Mrs. Ayse Nur, from Istanbul Walks, was excellent. Concise and informative intervention; friendly, pleasant and accommodating. She went our way to conclude the tour in Spice Bazaar to do some shopping and secure a taxi to go back to the hotel. Well appreciated 😊

We loved our guide Ludwig. He answered all our questions and guided us on shopping for articles we were seeking. The Lunch was delicious with lots of options to choose from and was in a nice restaurant in a nice location. The Island was very interesting and the horse carriage tour was relaxing. The Ferry ride was an acceptable length of time and the tour reasonably priced. I would recommend this tour to any one as you could walk & shop or sit & people watch.

Our guide was brilliant. His knowledge was impeccable. As I had a walking stick his concern was very much appreciated. Would love to have him as a guide again.
