What you can expect
Embark on a full-day tour to witness the iconic historical sites, magnificent temples and grand beauty of Mandalay and the riverside village of Mingun. Explore the former Royal Capital as you climb to the top of Mandalay Hill before heading up river to spectate Mingun's architectural wonders.
Meet your guide at your Mandalay hotel, before heading off for a day of exploration. Begin with a trek up Mandalay Hill until you reach the 787-foot (240-metre) viewpoint, where you can take advantage of sweeping views of the city, river, and surrounding countryside.
Head back down to stop at the Golden Palace Monastery, remarked for its detailed wood carvings, followed by Kayuktawgyi Pagoda to marvel at the huge marble Buddha. Finally, make your way to Kuthodaw Pagoda to see a collection of 700 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist teachings that make up the world's largest book.
Before heading to Mingun, stop for lunch at a local riverside restaurant for an authentic Burmese meal. Then, set off on a boat up the Irrawaddy River to the village of Mingun, gazing onto the river's bank for a glimpse into the local way of life. Upon arrival, get the chance to see the world's largest uncracked bell, Mingun Bell, as well as the architecturally astonishing Hisnbyume Pagoda. As you tour through town, shop for local artistic goods, such as handcrafted baskets.
Depart back to Mandalay by boat, watching the sun set over the river, before being transported back to your hotel.
