What you can expect
After getting picked up at your hotel, make your first stop at an elevated temple where detailed architecture and sweeping views of the surrounding plains offer plenty of photo opportunities. Continue on to Ananda Temple, where 4 standing Buddha statues are covered from head to toe in gold leaf, and then reach Myinkaba Village for up-close looks at the incrate murals and plaster carvings at Gubyaukgyi Temple.
Scope out the work of local wood craftsman and then recharge with lunch at a nearby restaurant before returning to your hotel for a short break. Once you're rested, get picked up and head to the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Board a private river boat and cruise upstream to Kyauk Gu U Min, a stunning cliffside temple. Along the way, watching for passing ferries, active fishermen, tiny villages, and centuries-old temples, and make a special stop at the riverside village of Sae Lan to walk around and mingle with locals.
At Kyauk Gu U Min, take a short stroll to the temple's entrance and spend some time snapping photos of its fascinating exterior, carved into the side a cliff. Venture inside to explore its cave chambers and keep your eyes peeled for small meditation niches. When you're ready to head back, return to the boat and cruise back to the city for a ride to your hotel.
