Description

Discover two of Italy's most celebrated attractions: the ancient city of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that unleashed its fury on the city in 79 AD. Explore the ruins of what was once a prosperous town in the Roman Empire and enjoy a hike to the crater of the breathtaking volcano.

Journey from Sorrento and head to the now infamous town of Pompeii, nestled in the giant shadow of Mount Vesuvius. Go back in time to see what Roman life would have been like 2,000 years ago, as you stroll around the incredibly well-preserved ruins. Listen as your expert guide regales you with stories of the people that lived in Pompeii and the truth behind their demise.

Then your adventure continues to Mount Vesuvius. Dominating the Bay of Naples, this is the only still-active volcano on the mainland of Europe. It still poses a threat to the people and the surrounding area. Take an opportunity to trek to the top of the volcano and peer into its enormous crater.

A little bit disorganised at first. Not clear which bus we should be on. Once on the bus excursion and guide were very good. Excellent bit of bus driving. Entry tickets were not included but you could buy them on the bus . Would recommend this trip

The tour was okay but I wasn’t prepared for how many euros on top I needed. I knew that the entrance fees were not included but they also “suggested” a €15 a head restaurant. However, we felt we wouldn’t have enough time if we went to another restaurant so we ended up eating there. Which is a shame as the waiters were rude.So it cost a total of €45 on top each! When the guide took us around Pompei she seemed determined to stand directly in the sun for ages to tell us facts about the surroundings...it was over 30 degrees and there were children and elderly people on the tour. I’m surprised none of us passed out. The Vesuvius part was tough too. 800 meters up a steep slope... not for the faint hearted especially in the heat. This part was not guided. The guide gave us 1.5 hours to get up and back down. She said it was a half hour walk up..in the heat it took a lot longer. Some on the tour chose not to climb so didn’t buy tickets. The views were spectacular though.

The trip was excellent, our tour guide Lia knew everything about Pompeii and Vesuvius, and made us feel very welcome. Certainly worth the money, however, you must make sure you bring money with you as the entry to Pompeii and Vesuvius is an extra fee on the day. I would also recommend to bring food as the restaurant they take you too isn’t particularly cheap. All in all, I would highly recommend visiting these incredible places.
