Description

Take a ride on the historic Puffing Billy Steam Train, winding your way through the Dandenong Ranges and enjoy a traditional Devonshire Tea in a bush setting.

Hop on a luxury coach, escape the city, and find a lush haven of delights in the Dandenong Ranges, such as hidden fern gullies, towering forests and sleepy villages. At Grants Reserve, taste scrumptious, hot scones with jam and cream and take a sip of delightful, home-made Devonshire tea. Take the opportunity to hand feed birds that are exclusive to this region, such as the pink-chested Galah and colourful Crimson Rosella, and have your camera handy to snap a few photos.

Later, head to Belgrave and ride the restored Puffing Billy steam train along the original narrow-gauge railway. During your 30-minute ride, marvel at the towering mountain ash trees and beautiful gullies of Sherbrooke Forest, see the ancient Trestle Bridge and admire impressive views of Port Phillip Bay.

The company collected us from our hotel and took us to the departure point. The bus was on time, clean, and had a driver who was extremely knowledgable, providing an ongoing interesting commentary while we were on the road. Puffing Billy was fun, and for us the half day tour was enough.

The tour should be organised by AAT and my family should be picked up at 8:00 a.m. (not too early; that's why I chose this tour), but unfortunately we were arranged to join another tour of another travel agency and were picked up at 7:10 a.m., almost 1 hour earlier. The tour finally started at 8:15 a.m. after picking up all participants from different hotels. In the journey to Puffing Billy, we (even others) felt tired and fell asleep. Getting up earlier may be one of the reasons.
